Resumen
The indigenous population of Baja California was reduced significantly during the missionary period. However, in the early nineteenth century the declining demographic trend that led these peoples to extinction began to revert. The immigration of groups that settled in the former missions, in nearby ranches, along the coasts and in the mining regions in the Southern part of the península gave place to an unstable but important demographic growth in the region. This work reviews this demographic rocess in its different stages, by analyzing the census and regtsters of religious and civil authorities of the Baja California península.
