Many research projects, apparently, have recourse to some kind of theoretical framework to introduce the study; unfortunately, this is not always directly relevant. Several theoretical perspectives need to be interpreted by developing a model which can act as a bridge between the theory and the empirical study. One example of this is systems theory. Two studies are examined where this theory was invoked, but then "left hanging", one relating to ecotourism in Valle de Bravo, the other to the development of commercial centres in an urban area.

This research arises from the concern with the environmental reality that we are experiencing at the moment and the impact that it has had in rural areas. Starting with important antecedents of an international and national scale, it contextualizes the problem of water in the community of Atlatongo. There is a presentation of the relation that exists between the systems of thought of the rural leaders of the community of Atlatongo and the practices related with the sustainability of water; or what we have called sustainable behaviour based on concrete objectives and hypotheses. The concurrent methodological model is used, combining ethnographic, documentary and fieldwork aspects. The results, based on the focus group interviews applied to the drinking water commissions, derive from an analysis of the content of these interviews. Finally we present the results, highlighting the conditions necessary for sustainable behavior to emerge, as well as the need to foment a culture about water, whose underpinning basis is a sustainable representation for water that generates sustainable behaviour.

An analysis of the theoretical and mathematical basis of chaos theory in relation to complex systems leads to reflections about the possibility of explaining and applying this theory to territorial studies.

This paper is about the tendencies in employment structure in economies like the Mexican one, where important changes have appeared that show, on the one hand, precariousness in labor conditions and, on the other hand, they denote the impact of productive reconstruction, a consequence of applying a new economic growth model. Starting from an exploration of one of the controversial concepts in labor market studies, informality, the essay proposes a reflection about the dynamics and heterogeneity of the urban labor markets, as evidenced by a new capital-work relationship.

This work reflects on problems related to the training of researchers, based, on one hand, in the context subsisting in Mexico, with its lack of resources and opportunities for the development of research as a result of the weak relationship between producers and users of science, especially in industry. On the other hand, it falls into the confusion which exists when trying to teach research, since there is an abundance of theory about knowledge and forms of exposition, which are very important of course, but the necessary mastery of research logic is minimal.

This article analyses the configuration of industrial activity in the global context, in order to visualize the way in which it takes place. Accordingly, emphasis is placed on the fact that the present process of re-structuring economic activity, within the process of globalization, has a direct effect on industrial activity, since this dynamic modifies the traditional patterns of production and organization of firms. Territory is one of the elements of change.
