Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID‐19) is a public health emergency of international concern. Strategies to manage the pandemic spread of the virus have changed the daily behaviour of people worldwide, including people with diagnosis of severe mental disorders. In Portugal, mental health services had to adjust, several ambulatory facilities for psychiatry patients, as well as the acute day hospitals closed. Additionally, community-based programs for this population were also affected. Mental Health on the MOVE research project is a specific example of how COVID-19 affected physical activity and mental health interventions. This document pretends to report how COVID-19 changed the project dynamic, mainly during the exercise sessions and research activities, describing the strategies adopted during this difficult time. This information could be helpful for other research teams that also had to adapt and challenge themselves with clinical and scientific methodologies to follow the project purpose, taking into consideration government rules and health standards.

This study aims to identify neuropsychological assessment measures that can better guide the selection and difficulty level adjustment of neuropsychological rehabilitation tasks for patients with acquired brain injury. Eight patients with acquired brain injury were recruited from one rehabilitation institution. The neuropsychological protocol included standard neuropsychological tests targeting attention, memory, and executive functions. After the assessment, the patients enrolled in an intensive online cognitive neuropsychological rehabilitation training program (80 sessions of 49 cognitive training and 31 affective and psychosocial intervention sessions). The association between the assessment results and the training outcomes was measured to explore which measures were better associated with specific training outcomes. This study suggests that the results of specific conventionally administered neuropsychological tests can be good indicators of the patients’ performance in the cognitive training of attention and working memory. On the other hand, none of the tests provided valuable data regarding the patients’ ability to perform the executive functioning training tasks, perhaps because those appeal to everyday situations, which are not adequately represented in the administered tests. More research is needed, especially regarding the executive function.

In general, terms, the flipped classroom or Flipped Classroom is an active methodology in which the student learns at home through videos made and sent by the teacher with the proper use of ICT, promoting a greater role for the student. The objective of this research is to analyze how the use of the flipped classroom contributed to the learning of third-cycle semiology students in the dentistry career. That is why this research is based on a qualitative and quantitative approach of descriptive scope through the application of an observation sheet made to a group of 15 students, in which the categories of knowledge, motivation and time were included. Observing their reactions regarding the applied methodology. Among the results obtained, the motivation in the student stands out, as he understands the concepts better than in a traditional class. Finally, it was concluded that the application of the flipped classroom in higher education is relevant and necessary to improve student learning, contributing to a better understanding of concepts with a more cooperative attitude, since they review the material prior to meeting in the classroom; therefore, the level and academic performance improves.

The way a family works can influence how teenagers regulate their own emotions. Thus, this study aims to analyze the relationship between family functioning and adolescent emotional regulation. The sample consisted of 625 adolescents of both genders (between 15 and 20 years of age). The results revealed that professional and male adolescents perceive worse communication in the family and more significant family difficulties. In general, male adolescents perceive greater difficulties in emotional regulation than female adolescents. The results also suggest a predictive effect between family functioning and emotional regulation in adolescence. Therefore, it seems necessary to work with families and adolescents to increase skills, thus improving their emotional regulation. This study assumes relevance due to the potential implications for the intervention with adolescents and their families.

The estimation of maximum oxygen consumption (VO2max) with the ergospirometric system, considered the gold standard, is not easily feasible for the general population. Therefore, indirect tests are commonly used. This study aimed to compare the VO2max determined by an ergospirometric system with values estimated by the Polar V800 device. 17 male recreational runners (29.89 ± 6.84 years) performed a cardiorespiratory test on a programmable treadmill (ATL model, Inbramed, Brazil). Gas exchange and ventilatory variables were measured breath by breath, using a metabolic analyzer system (Ergoestik Geratherm®, Germany). VO2max was indirectly estimated with the Polar V800. Data normality was analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk test. The intraclass correlation coefficient and the standard error of measurements (SEM) were used to verify reliability. Pearson's correlation coefficient test was applied. Statistical significance was established at p<0.05. Polar V800 demonstrated low levels of SEM (1.83 mL/kg/min). There was a moderate-strong intraclass correlation between repetitions for both methods (ICC = 0.69; p = 0.01), a moderate correlation (r = 0.54; R2 = 0.29; p = 0.02), and excellent agreement between methods. The Polar V800 can be used to indirectly measure the VO2max in recreational runners.

This study aims to verify the female and male preferences regarding the size of female breasts and male shoulders, considering variables such as the environment, the existence or not of a romantic partner, and the participant’s gender. An eye-tracking device was applied to determine the time spent observing body parts. Based on the time spent watching, it was possible to decide which body parts and characteristics are preferred by both sexes. Subjects were exposed to six female images and six male images. Participants were asked to respond to a questionnaire to select the images based on their attractiveness to each image. The sample comprises 44 students from a Public Higher Education institution in the North of Portugal, aged between 18 and 26 years old. The influence of the variables tested on the participants’ fixation times is verified. The results made it possible to conclude that there are differences between the sexes within these variables. Women prefer medium masculine shoulders and men small feminine breast sizes, and participants from rural areas tend to choose areas of the body with medium proportions in both sexes. In contrast, those from urban areas tend to prefer areas with slightly larger proportions.

The 30-s Chair-Stand (CS30s) and the Timed Up and Go (TUG) are functional tests designed to provide information about lower limbs’ muscle strength and functional agility in the elderly. Although both tests are intended to assess different aspects of functional fitness, the level of shared variance between these tests has not been determined yet. This study aimed to verify the correlation between the TUG and the CS30s. Forty-seven healthy women volunteered to participate in this study. The participants participated in a 60-minute water exercise program that occurred twice weekly for at least 6 months. The CS30s and the TUG were administered to each subject, respectively, always in this order. The results from Pearson’s correlation were calculated using the maximal number of repetitions performed in the CS30s test and the time spent performing the TUG test. There was a significant but low correlation (r = -.563; p < .05). A shared variance of 31.7% was observed, so it is possible to speculate that these tests are related to different neuromuscular demands. The scores obtained from the CS30s were 8.1% higher than the ones found in the reference values from the literature for this target group, while the scores from the TUG were similar.

The present study investigated the impact of sarcopenia traits on the anthropometric profile, pro-and anti-inflammatory cytokines, factors related to iron metabolism, and the risk of mortality in hemodialysis patients. The sample consisted of 247 participants; 177 were included in the sample aged 66.8 (± 3.34) years. End-stage renal disease (glomerular filtration rate <15 mL/min/1.73m2) with arteriovenous fistula distributed into three groups: Low Muscle Mass, Dynapenia, and Sarcopenia. All patients had hypertension and diabetes. Among 247 subjects, 38 (15.4%) died during the study. Of that number of deaths, 9.3% were non-sarcopenic, and 32.3% were sarcopenic (p < .0001). Based on Cox proportional hazard analysis, participants in the sarcopenic group had a higher risk of death (HR: 2.492; 95% CI: 1.165 – 5.5331) (p < .0001). The findings showed that muscle mass plays an important protective role for poor prognosis in patients with CKD, as the anthropometric, inflammatory, and iron metabolism profiles tend to be compromised in the face of low strength and low muscle mass.
