This article focuses on the reception of Classical Rhetoric in the work of Juan Luis Vives. We argue that Vives explained Classical Rhetoric as a creation of democratic and republican political context in Classical Antiquity and that he aspired to integrate this tradition into the world of xvi Century. In doing so, he emphasized the importance of decorum as a solution for verbal antagonism and as a persuasive speech in a new context.

The present study provides new records of sea slugs observed in four locations in the northern area of Veracruz: Enmedio reef, Lobo reef, Tuxpan breakwaters and Tampamachoco lagoon; the sightings occurred between July 2022 and July 2024. In total, 12 species of sea slugs were identified, of which three species are new records for the southern Gulf of Mexico, and four are new records for the northern area of Veracruz. These new records contribute to the knowledge of sea slugs in the southern Gulf of Mexico, which has increased favorably in recent years.

The breakwaters are rocky structures that protect the coast and promote the establishment of diverse sessile organisms, like the marine sponges. The present study provides the first records of marine sponges that inhabit the breakwaters of Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico. In total, seven species of the Class Demospongiae were identified, of which, three are new records for Mexico and four are new records for the northern coast of Veracruz. These records contribute to the knowledge of marine biodiversity in Mexico.

A new species of deep-sea amphipod of the genus Eusiroides is described. The studied material was collected in localities of the Gulf of Mexico and the Florida strait by the R/V Gerda in 1963. The most relevant differences between the new species and E. monoculoides (Haswell, 1879) and E. yucatanensis McKinney, 1980, the only species of the genus recorded up today from the Caribbean Sea, are also given.

This study reports for the first time the presence of Rhizoprionodon terraneovae neonates in a coastal lagoon in the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. The observations suggest the presence of neonates was due to the salinity values being similar to those of the coastal zone (32 ppt) and that they may have been attracted by the high presence of penaeid shrimp. The presence of this species in this lagoon supports the knowledge of the biology and ecology of the species, which will contribute to its proper fishing management.

The cosmopolitan ant genus Crematogaster is a conspicuous lineage of myrmicine ants. Here, we describe a new species from Hispaniola, Crematogaster dorada sp. nov. C. dorada is readily diagnosable from other Caribbean ants through mesosomal thoracic sculpturing and a unique color pattern; its taxonomic affinities are consistent with other members of the Neocrema clade in the Orthocrema group, a lineage with no previous record in the Caribbean. The current diversity of Greater Antilles Crematogaster now stands at 10 species and three putative subspecies. Expanded sampling will likely yield additional species as much of the Caribbean fauna has been unrevised since the early 20th century.

The taxonomic list of Cuban fossil brachiopods from the National Museum of Natural History of Cuba (MNHNCu) is presented. On the other hand, new localities are reported for three of these invertebrates: Tichosina cf. guppyi Cooper, 1979 (Reserva Florística Manejada Abra del Río Cojímar, Havana), Tichosina insolita Cooper, 1979 (San Antonio del Sur, Guantánamo) and a specimen of the genus Terebratulina d`Orbigny, 1847 (Finca La Guabina, Pinar del Río). In addition, the first report of Tichosina lecta Guppy, 1866 for Cuba is presented. The finding of Tichosina insolita Cooper, 1979, represents the first record for the Miocene of the island. Likewise, the finding of the specimen of the genus Terebratulina d`Orbigny, 1847, represents the first record for the Cretaceous of the province of Pinar del Río.

Predation of the terrestrial mollusk Caracolus sagemon (Beck, 1837) by the black rat, Rattus rattus (Linnaeus, 1758), is recorded for the first time. Observations were done in the backyard of an urban residence in Sancti Spiritus city, homonymous province, central Cuba. All the predated snails belonged to juvenile or subadult specimens of this mollusc. Now, there are ten species of molluscs in Cuba that have been predated by this introduced rodent.
