The purpose of this paper is to analyze some of the constituent elements of Desprendimiento de rutina, a short novel by Pablo Aranda Ruiz whose originality lies in using literary pastiche to develop a tangled plot exhibiting a society in crisis. Through the detailed reading of the text and the study of its narrative structure, I suggest that Aranda resorts to parody and the genre of the psychological novel to create a work sprinkled with elements of criminal fiction, Don Quixote and mass culture, and that with these elements he creates an antihero incapable of distinguishing between truth and lies, between reality and fantasy.

This paper defends an autobiographical reading of Jaime Gil de Biedma’s Retrato de un artista en 1956. I will attempt to demonstrate that the autofictional reading that has predominated since the publication of Javier Blasco’s study (1996) has led to important themes linked to homosexuality, prostitution and the sexual exploitation of minors being overlooked. It will be seen that the analysis of these themes, relegated by most critics to the extra-textual sphere, is central to an understanding of the author's literary proposal.

In this essay, I analyze the relationship between word and space in Migraciones, by Mexican poet Gloria Gervitz (1943-2022). In the different versions of the work, written between 1976 and 2020, the lyric voices go from intimacy (Migraciones, 1976-2004) to the polyphony of the marketplace, a sphere that Gervitz includes for the first time in the 2016 version of her work. I maintain that the scene of the tianguis transforms the main poetic speaker’s political position as a citizen, her diasporic condition as a migrant, while it shapes a nuanced understanding of the role of class and gender in the unfolding of history.

Antonio Cornejo Polar, in formulating the concepts of heterogeneous and homogeneous literature, exemplifies the latter with the work of José Donoso, thereby situating the author, his production, his referents, and the communicative circuit of his work within the same sociocultural universe. This paper aims to respond to Cornejo Polar's reading of Donoso's writing by proposing that, contrary to the Peruvian critic's assertion, there are elements that allow Donoso's narrative to be characterized as part of the so-called heterogeneous literatures. Within this framework, the analysis focuses on Donoso's novel The Obscene Bird of Night (1970) to identify the features that reveal the cultural heterogeneity present in the Chilean writer's work.

Over the last decades, the ill-named “Mapuche conflict” has been intensified by the growing expansion of the forestry industry and its monoculture plantations of pines and eucalyptus in the ancestral Mapuche homeland, known as Wallmapu. Considering this political and social backdrop in present-day Chile, in this essay I analyze the images of forest dispossession depicted by Kütral Vargas Huaiquimilla in her work La edad de los árboles (2017). I propose that the Mapuche-Huilliche author articulates a disobedient writing that opposes the violence of neoliberal extractivism and the “monoculture of the mind” (Shiva) by claiming a space for mestizo expression and taking on a fluid corporeality that defies colonial and heteropatriarchal norms.
