This work aims the search for ways to enhance language learning in the elementary school in Brazilian educational system. The way found to attend the demand of teachers’ formation aiming their students’ linguistic development, in the fields of read and write was to develop a didatic support – methodological computational multiple to distance continuous formation. We delineated an interactive proposition on the perspective of knowledge building. Developed a prototype of the course that was workbench tested, also aiming, the formation of the tutors as first students of the course. To this we chose interaction tools based in applicability and functionality studies. Work with distance learning in this differentiate perspective, amplify the possibilities to touch the teaching body of the public system in a country with the continental dimensions like Brazil, where the borders and physical and methodological limitations of schools must be broken up.

In this article we try to analyse what advantages the New Information Technologies –especially Internet and e mail– have meant for the development of distance education. What it has been called e-learning or on-line training.Nevertheless, we think that e-learning does not take full advantage of all possibilities that Internet offers. In this article we want to outline some aspects of on-line training, like how it mimics the classical distance training. This use of New Information Technologies is limited almost only to transfer documentation and contact - keeping via e mail or web. From en.red.ando we propose «networked training» as a new form of distance training, extracting the rich possibilities that New Information Technologies offer. Networked training generates rich content and a very important knowledge base, due to the communication, interactivity and participation among teachers and students. That knowledge base is essential for a high quality training. In en.red.ando we have developed en.medi@, an on-line knowledge management technology that we apply to the process of networked training, and in particular, to the en.red.ando’s Master in Digital Communication and to courses and training seminars that we offer.

The article presents an innovative proposal in teachers' formation, generated by CEDERJ - Centro Universitário de Educação à Distância - in Rio de Janeiro. The «Centro Universitário» was created through a consortium among the headquartered public universities in Rio de Janeiro, with the fundamental objective of increasing the offer of vacancies in degree courses and masters degree in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The central metaphor was the one of a boat trip, in that the difficulties are compared to the thorns that can impede the arrival to the port. The first part of the text evidences legal and conceptual subjects in Educationat the Distance (EAD), as the constitution of new educational atmospheres, the teacher's performance in thatteaching modality and the multiplicity of resources and possibilities that it presents. The second part describesthe constitution and the development of CEDERJ, and the partnership among two public universities (UERJand UNIRIO), in a course absolutely new: Pedagogy – Formation of basic education teachers.

After defending the need of theoretical solid bases that justify and encourage the good practices in Distance Education, it isdescribed in the article the major resistances to the change from a pedagogy based on the face-to-face relation to other one that leans on themedia interaction. Nevertheless, it is stated in the paper that the changes that may be forced by the incorporation of the technologies to the educational areas do not affect substantially the pedagogic fundamental principles. Finally, theactions considered to be the most important to guarantee good practices in distance education are discussed: research, training, planning, evaluation and establishment of nets.

How do we really learn? What is the role that technology can play in order to obtain a better learning? Why is so high the drop-out rate among participants in e-learning courses? How can we transform a passive reception of information into an experience of active construction of knowledge?

The Platform for Quality in Prevention is a project within the European initiative ADAPT, with the aim to develop a Web-based tool to be used to find solutions in Prevention of Occupational Hazards, called the PQP Network. It tries to help users to find sources of information, communication, training and advice on prevention of occupational hazards in a direct and convenient way. PQP takes the benefits of working with the new Internet information and communication technologies to the prevention field. The basic course on Prevention of Occupational Hazards, which focuses on cooperative work and putting together efforts and resources to improve prevention methods, allows: – Individual assessment– Individual training to meet different user’s needs– Guided prevention management– Channelling of all the information resources available to achieve prevention management focused on quality. Working in this new technologies environment means more benefits, such as: – Training sessions can take place any time, anywhere– Individual training that meets the user’s needs– The user actively participates in the sessions– Contents are constantly updated and are easy to use– Tutors are always available to support the user– Access to regularly updated Internet resources The main concept is active, practical and dynamic learning. A high degree of participation in the training process is required from the user. They will be supported at all times by Internet resources to guide their learning, and by a team of tutors who will deal with any query they may have.

In this paper we are going to introduce a system to build adaptive hypermedia web-based courses. Using it, any teacher can quickly creates a web-based course that lets the adaptation both the presentation and the navigation depend on the level of each particular student’s knowledge. In order to develop it we have used the AHA generic adaptive systems (de Bra, 98). We have performed it several modification on it to specialize and power it in the educational area. We are going to show a linux course as example of using our system. Currently this course is being used by students of the University of Cordoba. The linux course Cristóbal Romero Morales, Sebastián Ventura Soto, Carlos de Castro together with our system can be downloaded from Internet free. We are also developing an author tool so that the teacher can build easily the course without having to know the AHA internal structure.
