Resumen
The audio-visual politics of the European Union focuses on the dangers of globalization with respect to cultural diversity. For this task, it takes into account the legislative and political measures which are deemed necessary for a proper understanding and evaluation of the problem following the objectives set by the communal institutions. The study and analysis of this matter calls for a reflection on the relevance and convenience of these measures and its basis in a European frame

LUCIO, A. M. & NUNES, J. M. DE C. 2002. Contribution of the fenologyc knowledge of marine Red algae of the Guarajuba beach, (Camaçari, Bahia) Brazil. Bot. Complutensis 26: 17-34. On a study of the marine benthic red algae of the Guarajuba beach, 41 species were identified. For the present study, the fenology, habitat, frequency, seasonality and epiphytic relationship of the species were analysed. The reef’s frontal region and the reef`s plato have shown a bigger richness of species along the year, with 35 and 30 species, respectively. The genus Gracilaria (6 species) was the best representative one. A 70% of the species have shown reproductive structures, and the tetrasporic ones were more frequently. Generally, Guarajuba beach has shown more fertile algae than the oceanic border of Salvador city. Gelidium torulosum Kützing was recorded in the first time for the Bahia State and Petroglossum undulatum C.W. Schneider was recorded to the Brazilian northern littoral.

CARRASCO, M. A., PEREA, D., ARAGÓN, C. F. & GARCÍA-CAMACHO, R. 2002. The sets «Plantes de la Province de Grenada» from Pedro del Campo, in the herbarium of Real Colegio Alfonso XII of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid, Spain). Bot. Complutensis 26: 93-103. This paper focuses on a set of plants, found in the Real Colegio Alfonso XII historical herbarium of San Lorenzo de El Escorial (Madrid). These plants which belonged to Pedro del Campo, were distributed in exsiccata by Bourgeau in 1852. The historical importance of these sheets is enhanced as they were used for Willkomm and Lange in order to establish the species corology in the classic Prodromus florae hispanicae, as clearly stated in that work. Furthermore, many of these sheets were collected in the localities cited by Boissier.

RAMOLIYA, P. J. & PANDEY, A.N. 2002. Effect of salinization on emergence, growth and survival of seedlings of Acacia nilotica. Bot. Complutensis 26: 105-119. Effects of salinization of soil on emergence, growth and physiological attributes of seedlings of Acacia nilotica (Linn.) Del. (Mimosaceae) were studied. A mixture of chlorides and sulphates of Na, K, Ca and Mg was added to the soil and salinity was maintained at 4.1, 6.2, 8.1, 9.9, 12.2 and 14.3 dS m–1. A negative relationship between percent seed germination and salt concentration was obtained. Seedlings did not emerge when soil salinity exceeded 12.2 dS m–1. Results suggested that this tree species is salt tolerant at seed germination stage. Seedlings survived and grew up to soil salinity 12.2 dS m–1 and eventually this species is salt tolerant at seedling stage too. Elongation of stem and root was retarded by increasing salt stress. However, this species has a tendency for rapid root extension and roots are able to extract water from very dry saline soil (6.8 % moisture). Among the tissues, young roots and stem were most tolerant to salt stress and were followed by old roots and leaf successively. Leaf tissue exhibited maximum reduction in dry mass production in response to increasing salt stress. However, production of young roots and death of old roots were found to be continuous and plants apparently use this process as an avoidance mechanism to remove excess ions and delay onset of ion accumulation in this tissue. This phenomenon, designated «fine root turnover» assumes an importance to the mechanisms of salt tolerance. The ability of this plant to thrive in dry regions is further conferred by the xeromorphic features of its leaves.

SANZ-ELORZA, M., DANA, E. & SOBRINO, E. 2002. Contributions to the Segovia province flora (Spain). Bot. Complutensis 26: 35-46. In this paper, we provide chorological, cartographic and autecological information concerning fifteen vascular plant species in the administrative province of Segovia (Central Spain). The following taxa were recorded for the first time in the area: Eschscholzia californica Cham., Matthiola incana (L.) R.Br. subsp. incana, Diplotaxis catholica (L.) DC., Coronilla repanda (Poir.) Guss. subsp. dura (Cav.) Cout., Oenothera glazioviana Micheli, Stachys byzantina C. Koch, Solanum villosum Miller subsp. villosum, Solanum pseudocapsicum, Hemerocallis fulva (L.) L., Cortaderia selloana (Schultes & Schultes fil.) Ascherson & Graebner., Narcissus jonquilla L. All of them with the exception of Diplotaxis catholica and Narcissus jonquilla are aliens to Segovia. We also provide additional cartographic information about new populations of other four species: Rhus coriaria L., Amsinckia lycopsoides (Lehm.) Lehm., Solanum physalifolium Rusby var. nitidibaccatum (Bitter) Emonds, Achillea filipendulina Lam. the presence of which was already known in the area.

SANTAMARÍA, C., C. J. MARTÍN-BLANCO & M. A. CARRASCO. 2002. Some more plants with chorological interest from the volcanic region of Ciudad Real (Spain). Bot. Complutensis 26: 47-51. In this paper we present 10 taxa of vascular plants collected on volcanic soils in Ciudad Real province, Spain. Among them, Teucrium spinosum are the first record in Castilla-La Mancha, Ononis spinosa subsp. spinosa, Crepis foetida subsp. foetida and Senecio sylvaticus are the first provincial records and Scleranthus verticillatus, Vicia lutea subsp. Vestita and Aster squamatus are cited by the second time in Ciudad Real province. Also, we confirm the presence in this province of Reichardia picroides, Schismus barbatus and Juncus striatus, whose only previous reference, dated at the beguining of the last century, are the ancient and imprecise due to Gandoger from Sierra Morena. The sheets that testified this records are kept in the herbarium of Faculty of Biological Sciences of the University Complutense of Madrid (MACB).

The volatiles isolated from the aerial parts of Haplophyllum linifolium (L.) G. Don fil., were studied by means of GC and GC/MS. Sixty-four components were characterized, amounting 95,5% of the oil. The major constituents found were germacrene D (36,2%), bicyclogermacrene (9.0%) and beta-caryophyllene (7,5%).

The steam distilled oil obtained from the leaves of Juniperus navicularis Gand., gathered in SW Portugal was analysed by CG and GC/MS in combination with retention indices. The oil was shown to contain alfa-pinene (30,8%), alfa-phellandrene (11,1%) and limonene + beta- phellandrene (27,2%) as major constituents. Other characteristic compounds were cadinanes + muurolanes (2,7%). In addition to these components, (E)-nerolidol (4.8%) and alfa-epi-bisabolol (0,6%) were also present.
