This paper presents a Component-based Framework Development Process, of the Cardiology Domain. The Framework, called FrameCardio, was developed in 4 steps: 1- Problem Domain Definition, 2-Components Specifications, 3-Components Internal Design and 4-Components Implementation. In the first step the framework requirements were identified, based on experiences in the development of a cardiology system with 320 classes. The main models specified in this step are the Use Cases, Actions and Collaborations Models. In the Component Specification step component external behaviors were defined with their responsibilities, operations and interfaces. The main models are the Types Model, that describes an object external behavior, regardless of implementation decisions, and the Component Interactions that details the behavior of each case used in the Sequence Diagrams. Right after, in the third step, the Specified Components are refined, considering the implementation technologies. Among the models of this step, the components Classes Diagram, Components and the Component Packages stand out. The modeling was supported by a CASE tool. Finally, in the Components Implementation step the components code was generated in the ObjectPascal language, using a Transformation System. FrameCardio was structured in layers and organized in components packages, available in the CASE tool, to be reused by the applications. In the same way as in the development of FrameCardio, the Transformation System is used to generate the ObjectPascal code of the applications. A Cardiology domain Application is presented to show Framework components reuse.

We have developed a distributed DSS capable to working in a dynamic way. That is, when a domain of an organization needs a new kind of information, the system looks for this information. This system is based on the usage of mobile agents, which receive the user's queries and visit the appropriate DSS domains to gather the required information. The system itself must analyze where this information can be generated. To make this decision there is an intelligent agent (the Router) with a knowledge base (KB) where the information managed by each domain is represented. In this work, we present a strategy to obtain the initial data to be stored in the KB, a knowledge retrieval mechanism from the KB, and a learning mechanism so that the KB and the DSS operation can be continually improved. The proposed learning process is an interpretative case-based reasoning, which uses a set of rules to analyze the results of the information retrieval process and modifies the content of the router KB. Some examples are presented to illustrate the learning mechanism.

Structured testing criteria are usually used to assess the adequacy of test case sets, defining coverage measures. Control and data flow based criteria employ information about the program graph as well as definition and usage of variables to establish the testing requirements. In this paper, we present an approach to prototype supporting tools for control and data flow based criteria. In the proposed approach, we use TXL — a language based in the transformational paradigm — to analyze and instrument the program under test. The instrumentation aims at making it possible to process the data by a Prolog program which allows the tester to assess the test case set adequacy. A simple example is used to illustrate the main ideas of our approach.

Most current solutions for Web Based Instruction (WBI) use a centralized management model and a proprietary internal representation. The AVANTE Architecture is a WBI environment assembled using CORBA distributed components, implementing core services such as course management, user authentication, collaborative work, database access, presentation, and others. The AVANTE components conform to a 4-tiered model, with Client, Presentation, Management, and Low-Level Services component sublayers. Emergent XML standards for WBI describe all metadata definitions. Components at the Management layer manipulate JDBC-SQL data from the Low- Level Services Layer, and combine it with corresponding XML Schemas, instantiating course objects as new XML descriptions and component services. A filter-mapping service in the Presentation layer produces the dynamic HTML web pages needed for user interaction, processing these XML descriptions by applying one or more previously defined XSL stylesheets. A similar mechanism implements interface customization and remote service administration. The developed WBI system was deployed with open source software. Adding CORBA components easily achieves on-demand scalability. Future services include auditing, adaptive interfaces, grading, content development, and integration with existing systems.

The medieval concept of barbarus was the result of the direct influence of ancient authors. During the XIIIth, XIVth and XVth centuries some hispanic writers thought about this concept. This work is a study of its different intellectual interpretations as historical, geographical, anthropological, religious and philological criterion.

The books where the original Islamic doctrine is collected divide the world in two facing fields: Islamic countries and the rest of mankind. Till the end of the 11th C, the doctrinal debate about this was concerned with the conditions that allowed, or in its case obliged, to make war against the infidel’s territory. Nevertheless, after the Christian conquest of Toledo and Palermo, the debate was centred on the legitimacy of the permanence of Muslims in those lands governed by Christians. Recently, the phenomenon of immigration has brought in the desire for a special and specific statute for Muslims resident in non-Muslim states.

Considering a series of inscriptions found in Cordova and dated back to a concrete period, the Xth. Cent., the author thinks that the theory of a peaceful convivence among the different religious groups (Muslims, Christians and Jews) in Al-Andalus is very doubtful. It would be better to talk about of a tolerance that is a very different subject.
