The novel A Brief Life, by Juan Carlos Onetti, emerged during the rising of existentialism, which first spread in France and later on to other countries, and it is this context that the current article decided to focus on with the purpose of determining in what sense the stated novel can be defined as existentialist, in particular analyzing the affinity with the ideas of Kierkegaard, Heidegger, Camus and Sartre regarding anxiety, absurdity and otherness. Thematic criticism and phenomenological hermeneutics are employed as analytical instruments to examine the existential structure of the protagonist Juan María Brausen. Finally, the conclusion shows that certain similarities can be found between A Brief Life and the thought of the mentioned philosophers, which makes it possible to locate this novel in a specific place within the ideas of existentialism.

This article studies Mariátegui as a reader of poetry, that is, as a critic who found in poetry an object of questioning and a place to demonstrate the political fertility of the imagination. Mariátegui proposed three categories to map the different aesthetics tendencies occurring during the first decades of the twentieth century: “pure lyricism”, “absolute nonsense” and “revolutionary epic”. The aim of this article is to comment on each of them within the framework of a theoretical option that understands poetry as a device to broaden the concept of reality and to acquire, from there, a more complex understanding of the social world and the functioning of subjectivity.

By 2021, in Autlán, Jalisco, Mexico; the presence of motorized vehicles for private transport causes complications for the pedestrian, since some streets do not have the minimum urban infrastructure that provides security to its inhabitants. The objective of the study was to evaluate the streets Gerardo Vázquez, Víctor Manuel Pérez Sánchez and La Quebradilla with a useful tool of urban indicators for a qualitative and quantitative assessment of these roads. A matrix of alternative mobility indicators was prepared for the infrastructural and landscape evaluation, and for the proposal of solutions to the problem in which the pedestrian is prioritized. It is concluded that the results of the analysis of the object of study and the intervention proposal favor the locality. The information obtained serves as a watershed for the Honorable City Council in making decisions regarding the improvement of roads, for the benefit of pedestrians.

The article has the objective of revealing the history of duplex apartments in Havana in the period from 1940 to 1959, and its influence on the growth in height of the city. This is a historical investigation, in which 27 apartment buildings were documented, six of them made up entirely of duplex apartments. From the mid-1940s, duplex apartments proliferated in Havana. This article argues that this new type of apartment fostered higher profits in the rental housing industry, by permitting the increase of the number of dwellings in a building, without contravening contemporary Planning Regulations (Ordenanzas de Construcción) with regard to the permitted number of floors. As high-rise buildings multiplied in the city, following the passing of the Horizontal Property Law in 1952, these apartments, along with penthouses, proved to be the most desirable types, for being associated with a higher economic standing.
