This paper analyzes sorne proposals for a unification of Psychology, in particular the approach of Arthur Staats, which are contrasted with opposing views. This critica/ review offers a generalframework about the scientific paradigms. and concludes asserting that a unification proposal, given the existence of different paradigms in Psychology, whith different concepts about what is considered "real" and "psychological", such as those presented by Staats are notfeasible.

The objetive of this research was to know young people 's opinions and perceptions related to advantages and lacks of Secondary Education. Four areas were explored: cognitive, social-affective, corporal, and spiritual. The methodology was qualitative based on focus groups. The results show that young people perceive more lacks than gains during their stay in Secondary Education.

In this study the relationships between the leve/ of self-esteem of the child (measured by the "Piers Harris Children' s Selfconcept Sea/e",adapted and normalizedfor Chile), and their sex was analyzed. The sample is constituted by 935 children divided by sex, social economic position and grade.The results indicated that boys show, in average, levels ofself-esteem significantly higher than girls. Girls obtained higher seores than boys only in the behavior subscale. They a/so obtained lower seores in "anxiety" subscale. This means that girls are more anxious, worried and missatisfied. In the rest of the Subfactors evaluated, boys got constantly higher points. If we consider that self-esteem is involved with school efficiency, laboral output, social adaptation, etc., thesefindings can explain, in part the discrimination that exists with respect to gender in our society.

This artic/e deals with stepfamilies. It describes the characteristics of its structure and interpersonal relations between its members. lts objetive is to determine the main topics to deal with in any educational work with these stepfamilies. Twe/ve Chilean families were interviewed presenting the results of the qualitative analysis of these interviews. From this analysis, two main topics appeared to be more relevant. Thefirst of them is the interpersonalre/ation between adults and child, the other refers to the kind of role the stepparent will asume with the stepchildren.

In this article some results of two researches, dealing with the psychological activity in six districs of popular peripheric areas of Santiago de Chile, are presented. The first research describes the work of the psychologists, some difficulties derived from working conditions and their professionalformation, as well as the beneficiaries' participation on the programs offered. The second research shows the members of popular areas perception concerning the psychological activities. Both studies were based on interviews and worked out by using a qualitative methodology. Final/y, there is a comparison between perceptions of psychologists and members of popular areas about the psychological activity

This problem is formulated behind the conversation and analysis of six artists: Cienfuegos, Brugnoli, Bru, Garreaud, Aldunate and Rojo.
