Objective. To determine the association between poor self-perceived oral health and frailty in older people. Materials and methods. Cross-sectional study in older people beneficiaries of the Mexican Social Security Institute (IMSS) of Mexico City. For oral health self-perception, the General/Geriatric Oral Health Assessment Index (GOHAI) was used. Select the frailty phenotype described by Fried and colleagues (frail, pre-frail, and no frail). Results. A total of 1 173 old people (60 years and older) with an average age of 66.0 (5.7) years, women 46.1% (n=541). The mean (95%CI) of GOHAI-Sp was 49.2 (48.9-49.6). Was considered 9.2% (n=108) frail, 59.9% (n=703) pre-frail and 30.9% (n=362) no frail. The strength of association (odds ratio, OR) for poor self-perception of oral health and frail was OR 2.4 (95%CI 1.5,3.7) and adjusted OR 1.7 (95%CI 1.1,2.8) used as a reference for non-fragile. There is no significant association between poor self-perception of oral health and pre-frail. Conclusion. Poor self-perceived oral health may be an indicator of the presence of frailty in old people.

Objective. Systematize, evaluate and synthesize specific research for Mexico on the zoonosis caused by Trypanosoma cruzi, its vectors (Triatominae: Hemiptera: Reduviidae), and Chagas disease (CD). Materials and methods. Using PRISMA, original research was identified through four search engines, selected using inclusion criteria, assigned to 14 topic areas, and evaluated using technical criteria. Results. 1 410 records were identified and 659 (46.7%) were chosen for technical evaluation, of which 221 (15.7%) were rated as the highest quality. PubMed contributed 95% of the publications, while BibTri, Lilacs and Scielo contributed the remaining 5%. Publication rate was constant between 1950 and 1990, although there was an exponential increase from 1995 to 2020. Publication quality increased from 5.3% of registries in 1990 to 49.8% in 2020. Systemic, economic, anthropological and social aspects of CD in Mexico were the topics least published (8%). Conclusions. Despite the remarkable increase in knowledge generated in the last two decades in Mexico, this systematic review highlights evidence gaps fundamental for public healthcare policy to attend, prevent, and control CD in the country.

Objective. To estimate the association between the selection of health care providers and the health needs of the population. Materials and methods. We used data from Encuesta Nacional de Salud y Nutrición 2021 sobre Covid-19. Results. Acute needs (respiratory infections, diarrhea and Covid-19) represent 48%; 21% chronic needs (control, follow-up or diagnosis of diabetes, hypertension, gastritis, cancer); 12% prevention needs (vaccination, checkups, prenatal visits), non-infectious acute events that include physical injuries, headaches, fever (7%), and 4% the rest. The selection between private and public providers depend on the health need. For acute needs only 25% of the population uses public services. For chronic needs, non-infectious acute and preventive need, the proportion that uses public services is larger, including the population without social security. Conclusions. The results of this study can be used to strengthen public services that need more resources in the context of the health systems reform.

Objective. Describe the design process of Healthy Living, a new curriculum for basic education in Mexico. Materials and methods. A work team was formed between health specialists and the Ministry of Education, the scientific foundations of Healthy Living were set, materials for Healthy Living were chosen and evaluated, and current health contents included in other subjects were reviewed. Results. Healthy eating, physical activity, hygiene and cleanliness were defined as the three thematic axes for Healthy Living. 3 of 228 materials for Healthy Living were approved, and 71.7% of the current contents in basic health education require editions. Conclusions. Healthy Living is a milestone toward health literacy in basic education in Mexico, which aligns with the global agenda to preserve human and planetary health.

Objective. To evaluate indoor use of commercial aerosols for dengue vector mosquito control, and estimate the number of treatable houses per can. Materials and methods. Four aerosol products containing combinations of pyrethroids (two containing propoxur and one containing synergists too), were evaluated with mosquitoes in a room of a Tapachulastyle house. Eight cages containing 20 insecticide susceptible or resistant females were hung from tripods, another set was placed in sheltered areas of the room. From the entrance of the room, one of 4-9 concentrations was sprayed for each aerosol, leaving the mosquitoes for 30 min after sprayed. Mortality was recorded after 24 h and lethal concentrations were calculated. Results. Aerosol A had the highest LC50, with 0.308 g for mosquitoes hanging from tripods and 0.453 g for sheltered mosquitoes; followed by aerosols C, D and B, with statistical differences between types of exposure. Conclusions. Aerosols B-D could spray 20-25 3-room houses (56 m3-room), killing all resistant mosquitoes. Aerosols may become a good tool for indoor mosquito control, if the optimal concentration and correct spray method are used.
