A 50 años de su asesinato, Amílcar Cabral sigue siendo uno de los ideólogos africanos más reconocidos en el mundo. Con este artículo se propone una relectura de su vida y pensamiento para destacar que ha trascendido su contexto (la guerra en contra del colonialismo portugués) y su momento histórico (la Guerra Fría, cuando la mayoría de los países africanos estaban en proceso de liberarse del yugo colonial o ya habían logrado su independencia). No se trata de un estudio exhaustivo de una vida corta pero densa y de su pensamiento prolífico, sino de ponderar algunas de sus vivencias más significativas y que marcaron su praxis guerrillera. Este análisis está centrado en la relectura de la principal recopilación de sus textos (1975). Se concluye que su asesinato fue el inicio del fin del sueño libertario en Guinea-Bissau; no obstante, su pensamiento sigue siendo una luz para activistas populares, principalmente fuera de África.

The notion of “ethnic minority literature” is well established in Chinese literary studies. According to the standard definition, ethnic minority literature must be authored by a member of an ethnic minority and must reflect that specific minority’s modes of life. This definition hinges on the analysis of the author’s ethnicity and on the themes of his/her writing, thus ignoring the role of the reader in the process of literary interpretation. To fill this gap, this study asks what makes a text “ethnic” from the perspective of the model reader, the hypothetical person who is the target audience of a literary text. Taking five texts by contemporary Chinese authors as case studies, this article suggests that the content of a literary text— not the author’s ethnicity—determines whether a text is perceived as “ethnic”. For this reason, the article introduces the notion of “literature about ethnic minorities” as a tool of literary analysis that allows foregrounding modes of literary expression such as language use and literary themes rather than ethnic administrative categories.

This article aims to research several of the historical processes that laid the foundations for the so-called yellow peril emerging in the first half of the twentieth century in the United States. The rhetoric of the  yellow peril fueled the West’s fear of Asian people and this rejection eventually translated into specific, racist policies in countries like the United States. This anti-Japanese fervor was occasionally promoted by the North American media, such as in the case of William Randolph Hearst’s newspapers. In this context of international and racial tensions, public figures like Sidney Lewis Gulick attempted to support the concord and friendship between Japan and the United States through books, press reports and the founding of associations in favor of international relations. Gulick approached this kind of rapprochement from a critical perspective towards the role of the West in East Asia. As he viewed it, Westerners should start from the premise that the “yellow peril” had a predecessor it derived from, the “white peril”; that is, the threat posed by Western colonialism for a large part of Asia.

This article studies the role played by mask theater in the transformation of Korean performing arts throughout the twentieth century, and its connections to modern and European drama. It analyzes the changes taking place in the periods that have marked the different stages of the performing arts within the Korean peninsula, and in particular in the Republic of Korea after the division of the country. The text examines the situation during Japanese colonization, and then it focuses on the development of contemporary theater in the years after the Korean War, from the dictatorship to the democratic period. There are examples of work by performing arts professionals to bring new forms of Korean theater to life. The theater adapted during this period to the historical, social, and cultural changes taking place in the peninsula.

This article explores the use of the terminological pair dār al-islām/dār al-ḥarb, first, from the Islamic juridical perspective. Then, the discussion is focused on the relationship between religion (milla), nation (umma), and territory (maskan), in al-Fārābī’s political philosophy. It is highlighted that, in al-Fārābī’s approach, the dichotomy dār al-islam/dār al-ḥarb does not appear. The absence of that distinction suggests that for the philosopher religious identity is not a pre-requisite for a political community and its geographical demarcation. Therefore, it is argued that al-Fārābī’s philosophical approach rules out the division of nations based on their religious identity. Beyond the differences between legal science and philosophy, the article examines the conceptualization of al-Fārābī’s territory and its consequences for political philosophy.

A process of transformation of the meanings of the Chinese term xiaoshuo 小说, which we now translate into Spanish as “novel,” has been observed in Chinese history from the Pre-Qin period to the eve of modernity. A brief review of the accounts appearing in many ancient historical and literary texts reveals not only different meanings of this word and trace its trajectory, but also the origin and formation of the novel as a literary genre, and the initial phases of its evolution. In short, the main meanings refer to a connotation of inferiority and vulgarity in the Chinese novel in ancient and pre-modern times and to its origin related to oral resources.

Fundamento: en el contexto de las instituciones de educación superior, el desempeño organizacional cobra relevancia debido al papel fundamental que estas organizaciones tienen en la formación de capital humano. Su vínculo con la calidad subyace en el mejoramiento organizacional, científico e intelectual.Objetivo: fundamentar la aplicación de herramientas derivadas de los sistemas de gestión de calidad en la evaluación del desempeño organizacional desde el componente científico-investigativo.Métodos: se realizó un estudio descriptivo en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Matanzas, en el periodo 2018-2020. Se aplicaron métodos teóricos para la fundamentación de la investigación, y empíricos: revisión documental de informes de trabajo y el análisis de indicadores de desempeño organizacional.Resultados: el diagnóstico reveló no conformidades asociadas a la eficiencia y eficacia de los procesos académicos, el trabajo científico-metodológico, y los mecanismos de análisis, medición y mejora del funcionamiento del componente científico-investigativo. Consecuentemente se puntualizaron como oportunidades de investigación, el diseño de instrumentos para evaluar el desempeño con la integración de herramientas como las auditorías y los costos de calidad.Conclusiones: el estudio reveló la oportunidad y valor científico de abordar la gestión del desempeño científico-investigativo de la universidad médica, basado en herramientas de gestión de la calidad.

La pedagogía de la inclusión persigue formar personas desde la perspectiva de su individualidad, teniendo en cuenta su interacción social. Para la escuela cubana es un reto porque requiere cambios en la forma de interactuar, investigar y ofrece oportunidades de aprendizaje considerando la diversidad de necesidades y las diferencias de contextos, como alternativa más viable para proporcionar una respuesta educativa individualizada, comprensiva y diversificada. La Educación Física es una de las materias del currículo que tiene una alta responsabilidad de educar desde la diversidad, pero para ello los docentes deben capacitarse en las exigencias educativas a satisfacer. Los autores proponen algunas acciones metodológicas ya aplicadas a fin de que constituyan experiencias compartidas entre los docentes de la especialidad en sus clases. 

Para desarrollar un curso o asignatura a través de la educación a distancia utilizando la plataforma Moodle, es preciso dominar los recursos que esta ofrece; aunque sin el conocimiento del contenido, de pedagogía y una experiencia práctica de impartición tradicional de la materia, no es posible lograrlo con posibilidades de éxito. Es propósito de los autores socializar algunas acciones metodológicas sencillas, conformadas por ellos y aplicadas ya en su práctica docente, las que pueden ser útiles a los que se inician en la virtualización del proceso enseñanza aprendizaje.
