To identify the use of hyperlinks in digital news, as well as the importance given to it by newspaper readers, a quantitive analysis of four digital newspapers (two in Mexico and two in Spain) was carried out for two weeks and a survey of 208 undergraduate students at two universities, one in each country. It was found that the vast majority of the links were used to redirect to the newspapers’ own content and there was little effort to link to external sites. At least half of the respondents considered it relevant that the links are functional, in such a way that, if there is a broken link, they would resume reading the news article. These results suggest that there is a disparity between the use of hyperlinks by the media and the importance they have for audiences.

In this paper, the authors analyze the characteristics of Leila Guerriero’s and Manuel Jabois’ columnism according to the postulates of the Theory of Argumentation. Applying rhetorical analysis and contemplating the four phases of the persuasive discourse (intellectio, inventio, dispositio and elocutio), the authors determine the similarities and divergences between Jabois and Guerriero. Among the parallelisms both Jabois and Guerriero deal mainly with personal and social issues, frequently resort to ethos, logos, argument by analogy and by authority, and prefer the inductive macro-structure to defend their theses. As for divergences, Jabois deploys a more varied range of topics in his columns, whereas Guerriero uses argumentation by generalization in a greater number of columns and makes profuse use of figurative language, especially metaphors.

Focusing on what journalists ask and the responses of authors, this work presents a methodology of content analysis applicable to the journalistic genre of the literary interview and may enrich the specialization of cultural journalism, both in its procedures reflected in the publication of literary interviews and in the gathering of knowledge that allows contextualizing and understanding literary and artistic culture, as well as the keys to current culture from a sociological perspective. In order to test and verify the methodology of analysis developed and to understand the relevance of the dimensions acquired by the literary journalistic interview, 51 interviews have been analyzed, taking advantage of the feminist claim as a cultural news event and have been broadcasted digitally in ABC and El País during the month of March 2018. To store the data associated with the study, a relational database has been designed with Microsoft Access.

The current global media scenario, dominated by private transnational conglomerates that operate in a multiplatform context, brings the debate on the future of public service media (PSM) back to the fore. These operators are facing a redefinition of their operational strategy, not only in their linear broadcasting but also in the online space. Through in-depth interviews with the digitization managers, this article studied the case of Spanish regional PSM to analyze how these corporations are adapting to the new scenario through the development of their own video-on-demand (VoD) websites. The results show that these corporations are in their infancy in the platformization experience, operating without a sound strategy. In addition, this study identifies how the dilemmas historically faced by PSM have been reconverted into emerging identity, economic, and legitimacy challenges that require new strategies.

The 21st century has begun with the consolidation of a structural and systemic crisis that began with the Great Recession of 2008 and has been revalidated with the recent pandemic crisis. The neoliberal rhetoric, based on the “culture of austerity”, presents a narrative in which the only possible way out of the crisis is the need for citizens to be more flexible, entrepreneurial and to accept more precarious and risky positions, a model that is intended to be introduced and consolidated in the education system. This study uses framing theory and critical discourse analysis (CDA) to analyse the discourses of and about entrepreneurs in the media with the aim of observing how and through what rhetorical devices the narrative of the entrepreneur is constructed as a heroic symbolic subject of the neoliberal order and hypermodernity. The results expose the narratives with which otherness is expressed in the representation of entrepreneurs and emphasise the invisibilisation of social, cultural and patrimonial capital in the presentation of their success, where entrepreneurship is presented as an attitude and as a learnable element, but is materialised as an essence or an element of natural distinction

The aim of this paper is to analyze the sociodemographic, ideological and partisan factors that predict citizens' opinion on government control of information in the context of a health emergency in Spain. Data from the April 2020 CIS survey were used. This poll included a controversial question on the banning of fake news during the pandemic. Correlational studies, factorial analysis, linear and logistic regression studies were performed. Although ideological biases are a strong predictor of opinion on information control, partisan affiliation and certain sociodemographic factors such as educational level and age have greater influence on opinion about the prohibition. Voting for the parties that constitute the government increases the probability of supporting the restriction by 40%. Having a higher education practically doubles the probability of expressing an attitude against the suppression of fake news.

Colombian sound culture is impacted by the penetration of the podcast and the competition that this implies for the business model and the productive routines of the radio industry, passing from the antenna to the Smartphone. From a mixed, quantitative method -89 podcast hearing- and qualitative -in-depth interview-, through 10 categories of analysis, this research approached 8 radio agents with the objective of determining what is the context of the creation and dissemination of the podcast in Colombia. Connection of the radio medium with the podcast is notorious, however, it is observed that the broadcasters have been delayed in reacting and understanding the needs of an audience immersed in the screen devices. Radio will continue to be a reference in matters of auditory content, but the sound offer must go beyond what can be heard on the traditional antenna.
