This article explores the narrative construction of the desire and decision to mother children by professional women in Montevideo. The author did twenty-two in-depth interviews with working women between thirty-one and forty-one years of age. The article includes a theoretical-methodological section underlining the possible contributions of the narrative approach for gender studies focused on maternal desire. Then, she presents two sections that systematize her main findings. She identifies patterns of a way of negotiating cultural narratives about maternity in the life stories that reveal dynamism and intermittency in desire and identification with maternity.

The implementation of the competencies model in industry has generated diverse management practices using different names and tools, depending on the industry. This article explores this diversity and puts forward several key questions: Is there a logic that crosses all the competencies approaches? Can national specificities or common logics be observed internationally? Which employees are the most affected and what changes take place in their work activities? Analyzing the general trend toward individualized wage relations, the article is framed in the transformations of the productive system and classical debate in the sociology of labor. Labor competencies must be understood from a historical perspective, taking into account the economic and social circumstances that influence management’s needs and the skills required in the long term.

The article explores the debate about the distinction between sociological theory and social theory, identifying, describing, and classifying the different positions that their proponents adopt. Then, it systematizes the meanings, scopes, limits, and conceptual links between the two. To do this, the author uses temporal criteria first to deal with the perspectives that maintain that social theory precedes sociological theory; secondly, to examine the ideas of those who defend the premise that social theory comes after sociological theory; and third, those who maintain the two coexist. Later, he goes beyond the temporal dimension to add criteria to separate them. Lastly, given the consideration that the debate about this distinction is as yet just beginning, in his conclusions, he presents analytical dimensions to foster it.

This article analyzes information about the sex lives of heterosexual men and women in the cities of Colima and Guadalajara arising from the Survey about Intimacy and Couple Relations in Colima and Guadalajara (EIRP, 2021). The aim is to discover who has a sex life, the reasons for not having one, and contrasting people’s real sexual practices from those they would want to have, considering that this tension is framed within the structural limitations marked both by material living conditions and by the symbolic resources available to them that allow them to imagine possibilities and to use their agency.

The objective of this text is to familiarize the reader with part of the work of German sociologist Andreas Reckwitz and, at the same time, seek a dialogue with other authors who put forward similar ideas. Specifically, the author looks at Reckwitz’s work on singularities, the article’s central theme, which, for this sociologist are the expression of a cultural capitalism that satisfies consumers and at the same time, dictates the norms of its social relations through emotions and experience. To do this, Reckwitz explains the social logic that makes possible the production and consumption of commodities in modern society and points out the practices that maintain their operation and are carried out by the subjects themselves.

This article presents and argues for the concept of third party (male or female) in the framework of sociological theory. To do this, the author explains four systemic arguments (linguistic, socialization, institutional, and polymorphic) that support its inclusion in the basic constellation of sociality together with the Ego and the Other. Then, he develops its ontological and epistemological consequences and explores its most important impacts on the theory of society: the generalized third party, the institutionalization through the third party, and the differentiation of male or female third figures in different spheres of functional systems.

This article analyzes two substantive elements that make up what is called the social imaginary of transgression, that is, the anthropological vision of the transgressive subject and criminal policy. Using an analysis of discourse as the main methodological tool, the author traces the discursive registers that historically made it possible to understand the human being who violates the social order as a dangerous subject. This process is possible due to a series of prohibitions (whether legal, scientific, or other) that establish a relationship between human beings and the political authorities; that is, a criminal policy that, in our country, has certain punitive elements. The research results allow the author to point out some sociological routes that make it possible to analyze the violence our country is experiencing.

Economic sociology has identified four key dimensions for analyzing economic phenomena: cognitive frameworks, culture, institutions, and social networks. This article aims to develop an integrated framework that brings these perspectives together to examine the social organization of markets and their evolution. Based on the concept of fields and the theory of embeddedness, the first part of the article explores the interconnections among these four dimensions and their role in the configuration of market dynamics. Finally, the author analyzes how agents influence and direct transformations within the fields of the market, using Chile’s health insurance market as the case study. This market’s evolution has been marked by the interaction of different actors, whose tensions and interests have given shape to a field characterized by a stabilizing institutional structure, economy-based cognitive frameworks, an opportunist culture, and networks of economic concentration and social mobilization. These elements reflect the field’s specific trajectory as well as the social and political context in which the market is embedded and its constant interrelations.
