Detailed micro-sociological studies of everyday activities pose the challenge of making macro-sociological concepts completely empirical when translated into aggregates of micro-events. Micro-evidence and theoretical critiques indicate that human cognitive capacity is limited. Therefore, actors facing complex contingencies depend to a great extent on tacit and routine suppositions. Routines of physical properties and organizational authority are maintained by the tacit monitoring of social coalitions by the actors. Individuals continually negotiate these coalitions in chains of interactive rituals in which conversations create symbols of chains of ritualistic interaction in which conversations create symbols of group membership. Each encounter is a market in which individuals tacitly combine conversational and emotional resources acquired in previous encounters. The individuals are motivated to approach each other in ritual encounters in which their micro-resources generate greater emotional rewards, until they achieve points of personal equilibrium in which their emotional rewards stabilize or decrease. Large-scale changes in social structure are produced by aggregate changes in the three kinds of micro-resources: increases in general culture due to new means of communication or specialized activities in cultural production; new “technologies” or emotional production; and new, particularized cultures (individual reputations) due to dramatic events, usually conflicts. The article proposes a method of macro-sampling for the distribution of micro-resources.

En este artículo se busca reconstruir la teoría del prejuicio desplegada en los diversos estudios de Theodor W. Adorno sobre el antisemitismo, para interrogar desde allí determinados discursos registrados en el trabajo de campo sobre ideologías autoritarias en la sociedad argentina contemporánea. Luego de examinar algunos dilemas teóricos que se desprenden de la teoría adorniana, se analiza el material discursivo de una serie de grupos focales realizados en la Argentina entre 2023 y 2024, con el objetivo de definir si dicha teoría del prejuicio resulta adecuada para interpretar la hostilidad contra ciertas figuras sociales estereotipadas que insiste en el trabajo de campo local, pero podría constituir un modo de atravesar subjetivamente la crisis del neoliberalismo a nivel global.

This article looks at whether the relationship between educational performance and expectations varies as a function of socioeconomic background for young Mexicans in the last year of high school. The author uses the Planea 2017 evaluation to estimate logistical models about educational expectations. He observes that the expectations for studying at least a bachelor’s degree are slightly less sensitive to scholastic achievement in young people from high social backgrounds than among those of more modest social backgrounds, possibly due to the greater role that education plays for the social reproduction of the former. He observed less sensitivity to performance for the expectations of doing post-graduate work among those of lower social backgrounds, which might indicate greater caution when defining ambitious expectations.

This article presents the experience of a border research project that uses a cultural sociological approach to propose an agenda for studying violence in Mexico. First, it explains the theoretical panorama of the analyses of violence over the last twenty years, especially regarding disappearances, executions, and feminicides. It then looks at the space a proposal can cover from the point of view of cultural sociology and its theoretical-methodological suppositions, to explore the deep cultural structures that violence involves. Later, the authors share the critical comments and evaluations of this proposal that serve as support for broadening its interpretative horizon and, with that, that contribute to the advancement of scientific knowledge in this field of study.

El 27 de enero de este año 2025 falleció en la Ciudad de México el maestro Francisco Javier Rodríguez Piña, a quien le gustaba que le dijeran sólo Javier y que hasta muy recientemente fue el Jefe del Departamento de Sociología de la UAM-Azcapotzalco, cargo que desempeñó desde 2020, cuando llegó a la Jefatura después de ser el Editor Académico de Sociológica (México), a partir de principios del 2017. En ese mismo año de 2017, quien esto escribe arribaría a la Dirección de la presente revista científica de sociología, para desenvolverse en el cargo hasta el mes de octubre del 2024, por lo que Javier y un servidor convivimos intensamente en Sociológica, primero como el Editor Académico que fue y luego en su calidad del Jefe de Departamento que ratificó mi continuidad como Director hasta la fecha indicada.

This review discusses the book by Esteban Vernik, titled Max Weber: nación y alienación, published in 2024 by the Fondo de Cultura Económica in Buenos Aires, Argentina.  

Albert Camus' essays are full of mythological references. The invocation of Greek mythology, in particular, calls into question: between the illustration of a thought and the argumentative support of a point of view, the essayistic text of Camus is strewn with multiple Greek mythological references. This cannot be fortuitous and prompts us to seek the reasons for a procedure applied to "modern" times and civilization. If one considers that the recourse to mythology is a kind of indirect expression, there is also reason to wonder about the scope of a direct speech. What efficiency (or inefficiency) can the two have in this case?

Estas notas giran en torno al tema de la legitimidad. Concepto central del pensamiento político, la legitimidad ha apuntado históricamente a la "justificación" del poder político o, como se ha dicho, a conjurar la figura "demoníaca" que el poder evoca: imposición de voluntad, fuerza, violencia. El exorcismo ha apelado tradicionalmente a reinos más "angélicos" para encontrar en ellos principios de justificación: "Dios", "moral", "naturaleza".
