Introduction: Biliary ileus, representing less than 0.5% of intestinal obstructions, arises as an uncommon complication of cholelithiasis. This condition originates from biliary-enteric fistulas, mainly cholecystoduodenal, and its diagnosis often poses challenges due to nonspecific clinical manifestations. Objective: To describe a case of biliary ileus with an atypical presentation and analyze the individualized surgical approach employed, highlighting the criteria used for decision-making and its impact on managing intestinal obstruction. Case Presentation: The patient presented with an insidious clinical course characterized by abdominal pain, vomiting, and weight loss, leading to an extensive exploratory laparoscopy that resulted in an enterolithotomy to address the obstruction. Discussion: The Mordor triad, along with imaging studies such as computed tomography, aids in the diagnosis, although it is often confirmed during surgery. The standard surgical management, whether laparotomy or laparoscopy, is adapted according to the patient's risk, with either one- or two-phase approaches. Conclusion: Biliary ileus, though rare, requires prompt recognition and personalized surgical intervention. The absence of a uniform approach underscores the need for individualized decisions based on surgical risk, recurrence, and associated mortality.

Introduction: Desmoplastic fibroma is a rare entity, representing less than 0.1% of primary bone tumors. It has a locally aggressive behavior with a tendency to recurrence, ranging from 25% to 72%, when there is incomplete surgical resection. Objective: To describe the case of a patient with a diagnosis of desmoplastic fibroma of the sacrum, highlighting the importance and relevance for the medical literature, due to the clinical presentation and atypical location, as well as the low prevalence among bone tumors. Case presentation: We present a 28-year-old female patient with long-standing moderate lumbosacral pain, radiating to the right lower limb and accompanied by paresthesias. Imaging tests and CT-guided biopsy confirmed the diagnosis of desmoplastic fibroma. She received surgical treatment: surgical resection with intraoperative emptying of the residual cavity tumor, with favorable evolution. Discussion: Desmoplastic fibroma is an infrequent pathology, which requires an adequate complementary management through imaging studies, with specific histopathological confirmation by biopsy. Surgical treatment with wide resection reduces the risk of recurrence. Conclusions: Desmoplastic fibroma is an infrequent pathology, which requires an adequate complementary management through imaging studies, with specific histopathological confirmation by biopsy. Surgical treatment with wide resection reduces the risk of recurrence.

Introduction Echinococcosis or hydatidosis, a zoonotic parasitic disease that affects humans by accident due to ingestion of larval stages of cestodes of the genus Echinococcus, humans are an intermediate host, the parasite does not develop into an adult stage but usually produces cysts in the liver or other organs. Echinococcosis is considered as neglected tropical disease with a cosmopolitan distribution. In humans, it does not present specific symptoms and the diagnosis is based on imaging studies by ultrasound or computed tomography. Parasitological and/or serological diagnosis are also a diagnostic option. Molecular techniques can help for a specific diagnosis of the infection. Objective To describe a clinical case of hepatic hydatid cyst in an Ecuadorian patient highlighting the usefulness of molecular tools to identify Echinococcus spp. Case report A 37-year-old Ecuadorian patient from San Antonio de Pichincha was admitted to the Hospital General Docente de Calderón with nonspecific symptoms: abdominal pain in the epigastrium and right hypochondrium and general malaise. Computed Tomography of the abdomen showed lesions suggestive of liver abscesses, drainage was performed and the analysis revealed larval forms of Echinococcus spp., which were confirmed as Echinococcus granulosus by 18S rDNA sequencing. Discussion and conclusions Human hydatidosis is a parasitic entity that may be common in Ecuador. This report demonstrates that molecular techniques together with imaging techniques are useful for the specific diagnosis of hydatidosis. In Ecuador, health education campaigns are required for the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and control of Echinococcosis.

Introduction: Sexual machismo is a term of interest in the Latin American context. It is considered a risk factor for the health of men and women. In this regard, it may be related to the adoption of risky sexual practices, directly and indirectly impacting sexual and reproductive health. Objective: to determine the relationship between sexual machismo and safe sex in men living in Tijuana, Mexico. Material and methods: A study with a cross-sectional, descriptive and correlational design. The sample consisted of 310 men living in Tijuana, Mexico. Mixed online sampling was carried out. The inclusion criteria were being 18 years of age or older and having had sexual relations in the last year. For data collection, a sociodemographic data sheet, the Sexual Machismo Scale (EMS-12) and the condom use and safe sex subscales were applied. Descriptive and analytical statistics were applied. Results: A relationship was found between sexual machismo and safe sex in men living in Tijuana, Mexico. Discussion: Sexual machismo is correlated with safe sex in this group of men, this finding suggests that the greater the sexual machismo, the lower the safe sex. This data is consistent with that reported in various studies reported in the literature. Conclusions: The findings suggest that the more sexual machismo there is, the less safe sex there will be.

The article highlights hepatitis C as a public health issue in Colombia and the need for screening in pregnant women. Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection can cause obstetric and perinatal complications, but Colombia lacks a systematic screening strategy in prenatal care. Globally, only a fraction of hepatitis C cases are diagnosed and treated. In Colombia, cases have increased, but detection is limited to blood banks, underestimating the actual burden of the disease. In contrast, countries like the United States have implemented universal screening for pregnant women. The article recommends including HCV screening for pregnant women in national strategies to eliminate mother-to-child transmission. This would align Colombia with international recommendations, enabling early diagnosis and reducing complications associated with the infection.

The Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Central University of Ecuador commemorates 332 years of history, reaffirming its humanistic, scientific, and social mission. Founded in 1693, during a time when access to knowledge was limited, it was a pioneer in formal medical education. From its beginnings, it has evolved alongside the country's social and political changes, training generations of professionals committed to health as a fundamental right. Figures like Eugenio Espejo promoted a critical and compassionate view of medicine. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the Faculty embraced scientific advancements, promoted specialties, research, and clinical internships, and faced epidemics and social transformations. In the 21st century, it adapted its programs to a comprehensive health approach, emphasizing human rights and equity. During the COVID-19 pandemic, it once again demonstrated its deep commitment to life. Today, it is more than an academic institution—it is a symbol of hope, knowledge, and social justice for the Ecuadorian people and the world. Long live the Faculty!

This research examines how adaptation impacts the retention and completion of university studies for indigenous, afro-ecuadorian, and montubio students at the Universidad San Francisco de Quito (USFQ). Carried out in Ecuador, this research highlights the growth in access to higher education for these groups, despite the historical inequality gap in education, related to ethnicity, gender, and socioeconomic status. The results show that, although adaptation is important, it is not a determining factor in the completion of studies, since each group has the skills to meet academic demands.

This paper describes a didactic strategy that was built around the television miniseries WandaVision, a cross-media narrative that was used as the axis to articulate an integrative project for the training of first-year undergraduate students. This project, entitled Laboratorio de Productos Comunicacionales, was part of an academic continuity program to address the health contingency caused by Covid-19. As it is a narrative that illustrates the history of the television medium, WandaVision was useful for enriching the dialogue between seven subjects related to training in communication. At the end of the project, students produced microvideos, which enhanced their profile as content producers. This experience, framed in the edutainment theory, represents an innovation by using a series as a central didactic resource to obtain significant learning for the professional field.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the link between the field of academic training and job satisfaction among a sample of higher education graduates. The design is cross-sectional with a comparative and explanatory scope. A total of 1 112 former students who were currently working from different Mexican states took part in the study by completing an online form that included the S20/23 Job Satisfaction Questionnaire. Using the obtained data, averages were compared and multiple linear regression models were performed. The results suggest that job satisfaction varies depending on the field of study and that there is a negative correlation between graduating from specific fields and job satisfaction. The congruence between education and employment stands out as an important factor contributing to job satisfaction among higher education graduates.
