Recently, several new metaheuristic schemes have been introduced in the literature. Although all these approaches consider very different phenomena as metaphors, the search patterns used to explore the search space are very similar. On the other hand, second-order systems are models that exhibit different temporal behaviors depending on the value of their parameters. Such temporal behaviors can be conceived as search patterns with multiple behaviors and simple configurations. In this article, a set of new search patterns is presented to efficiently explore the search space. These patterns emulate the response of a second-order system. The proposed set of search patterns has been integrated as a complete search strategy, called the Second Order Algorithm (SOA), to obtain the global solution of complex optimization problems. To analyze the performance of the proposed scheme, it has been compared on a set of representative optimization problems, including multimodal, unimodal, and hybrid benchmark formulations. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed SOA method exhibits remarkable performance in terms of accuracy and high convergence rates.

The article deals with the evaluation of Web Accessibility based on the visual perceptions of users of an Educational Platform for continuous teacher training of national scope. An improvement of the AW evaluation guide presented previously is presented based on a set of associated metrics. The validation of the proposal was carried out in the period September-October 2019. The cross-sectional descriptive research systematized 101 assessments regarding three selected pages of an Educational Platform using the evaluation guide including aspects to capture data on visual perceptions. The analysis of the results uses metrics based on contributions from other authors and appropriate to the problem. The validation of the proposal for the case study indicates that the Perceptible and Understandable principles present greater difficulties, which is reflected in access barriers. The detailed analysis indicates the substantive improvements to be considered in the web design and its evaluation with methods that include as tools evaluation guides applied by users and metrics to quantify the degree of AW completed. Finally, the importance of including users in AW reviews is maintained to have a broader vision that complements automatic evaluations.

Emotional regulation is a fundamental skill for the cognitive, social, behavioral, and academic development of individuals with intellectual disabilities. However, these individuals often face significant challenges in this area. Therapeutic interventions have been designed to improve emotional regulation. Nevertheless, most interventions and studies have been directed at other populations, such as individuals with autism spectrum disorder or ADHD. Some of them have been proven to be effective in supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, yet a promising alternative is the use of serious games, and no specific research has been found on the use of video games for the development of emotional regulation in individuals with intellectual disabilities. This article presents the first part of the design of a video game aimed at supporting the emotional regulation of individuals with intellectual disabilities, with the goal of providing an innovative and effective tool in this field.

Lighting in workspaces is a topic that has attracted the interest of think tanks due to its impact on various aspects, ranging from energy consumption to productivity, safety, health, and education. In the educational field, it has been shown that lighting contributes 21% more to student progress compared to other environmental factors. In that sense, this paper presents the development of an innovative prototype called Prototype for Measuring and Monitoring Light in Laboratories and Classrooms (PMLLA). This prototype uses state-of-the-art electronic components, such as the ESP32, the BH1750 temperature sensor, the SSD1306 OLED display, the 4x4 matrix keyboard and the microSD memory module. The PMLLA offers a solution to measure light intensity accurately, reliably and intuitively in working environments such as laboratories and classrooms. In addition, the prototype facilitates data storage, enabling continuous analysis and evaluation of lighting levels in laboratory and classroom environments.

One problem with DHCP is connectivity, where connected devices can cause saturation of the IP address range. 60% of the devices connected to a wireless network occupy an IP during the entire lease time without being used due to its mobility between the available networks. Therefore, a unified configuration in the lease time and the range of IP addresses in each network segment results in inefficient use of IPs. In this work, after analyzing the connectivity behavior and performance of DHCP of the west zone of the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosí, we proposed the development of a dynamic optimization model of DHCP for the allocation of IP addresses using an adaptative algorithm implemented in free software as a solution to the saturation problem in this University. The results show an improvement of connectivity in wireless networks by 98% by adjusting their lease times and by 100% by adequately managing the distribution of the IP address range in each network segment. This adaptative algorithm functions as an intermediate agent that inspects the behavior and performance of DHCP and automatically searches for an immediate solution to the IP address saturation in the subnet.

Gamification has been used in the educational context as a pedagogical intervention proposal to increase motivation, participation, commitment and improve student learning. The aims of this review are to collect, synthesize and evaluate evidence on the use of gamification in the performance of educational platforms, particularly in team work dynamics and its effect on student engagement. Information was searched in five databases in the context of computing and education, applying eligibility criteria such as: research studies from specialized journals distributed over a ten-year range, excluding duplicates, incomplete ones or those from secondary studies. 2,953 primary studies were obtained, of which 28 studies were selected and published between 2015 and 2023. The incorporation of game elements in the Moodle platform with the combination of other applications and video games stands out, evaluating the impact of gamification in online or hybrid modalities, highlighting various effects on students such as: the modification of attitudes, the development of curricular competencies and collaborative work.

Identity theft in the digital age represents a challenge that requires our immediate attention. The objective of this article is to analyze the attack and defense techniques used to commit and prevent these crimes. The PRISMA 2020 methodology was used to carry out a systematic review in databases such as Scopus and Science Direct, with studies from the last five years. The results obtained are that phishing is positioned as one of the most recurrent attack techniques, along with malware, man-in-the-middle attacks and Social Engineering. To reduce these threats, defenses such as multifactor authentication, the use of artificial intelligence for fraud identification and information encryption are identified. In addition, the research highlights the need to update the development of cybersecurity technologies due to the constant adaptation of cybercriminals to adjust to new security strategies. Finally, it is important to train users and entities on the best security practices, which is vital to develop more efficient strategies to protect their digital identity in a constantly developing digital environment.
