The most recognized theories in marketing were mostly written by authors from the Global North, who were revered within the field for their ideals. Among these, one that deserves to be highlighted is Theodore Levitt, with the theory of globalization of markets, which is considered relevant to this day. However, when analyzing the theory of globalization of markets and the interpretations made about it through a decolonial perspective from Latin America, one can see how much it reproduces coloniality. Therefore, this article analyzed, from the decolonial perspective, with particular attention to the concept of coloniality of power – and its derivations, the coloniality of knowledge, and the coloniality of being – how coloniality is present in the theory of globalization of markets developed by Theodore Levitt. This theory stands for a racial asymmetry between peoples, positions itself as a superior epistemological perspective, and promotes a convergence toward ways of Being associated with the Eurocentric world. However, knowing that this is just one of the theories that make up marketing and reverberate the same colonial logic, the decolonization of marketing in Brazil is proposed. We suggest incorporating the thoughts of authors such as Lélia Gonzalez and Ailton Krenak, who critically debate issues related to globalization, capitalism, and markets. The use of subaltern knowledge outside the area is a theoretical dare necessary to construct a marketing discipline that is less asymmetrical and more consciously oriented to deal with the complexities and challenges of this context.

This study aims to understand the criteria that influence the decision-making process of selecting startups that have innovated successfully. In this article, this kind of selection was made by venture capital enterprises. We studied the view of the investors, venture capital professionals, and startup entrepreneurs interviewed. We present the actual global characteristics of the main cities where innovation takes place and the modernism and critical modernism aspects and creative thinking beliefs (Einstein, Habermas). The qualitative research was carried out using an™ exploratory approach and case study methodology based on semi-structured interviews (nine in total) with professionals from venture capital funds, startup entrepreneurs, and investors. The interviews confirmed several relationships between theories found in the business management literature. Findings such as post-bureaucratic environments (Heckscher), Mintzberg’s (1995) Adhocracy, and Simon’s decision-making process (1987) for pattern recognition were corroborated by the analysis of the interviews. We present some initiatives for innovation such as Station F in France, El Espacio La Nave, Madrid, the Project Porto Maravilha in Rio, and Vila Olimpia e Paulista avenue, São Paulo.

This study investigates the dimensions of the use of technological devices, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Recruitment and Selection (R&S) processes, from the perspective of recruiters from pharmaceutical companies located in the state of São Paulo. A qualitative research was carried out, through a semi-structured interviews with 12 people with experience in R&S before and after the advent of technology. The benefits, trends, and resistance regarding the use of technology and AI in R&S processes were verified. One benefit is the role of technology and AI in reducing the bureaucracy of HR, leaving it with a more strategic and consultative focus, by reducing time and cost in screening CVs and selecting candidates. A trend was that the pandemic brought a paradigm shift in the use of technologies in the R&S process, which should be used, either fully or partially, for a greater range of vacancies. Resistance was found in the skepticism about the assertiveness in candidate selection from the use of technology and AI due to the reduction of human contact. The ambiguous questions about the implications of the use of technology and AI on business diversity were also discussed. Suggestions for future research and research limitations were also presented.

This article aims to identify and analyze the frames mobilized by feminist movements to address violence against women and discuss their influences on public policies. The theoretical and methodological framework comprises frames (Snow & Benford, 1992). The research material consists of articles published in the newspapers Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo during periods related to three state actions that sought to combat violence against women: i) the creation of the women’s police stations in 1985, ii) the Special Criminal Courts in 1995, and iii) the approval of Law 11.340, of 2006 (Maria da Penha Law). The results indicate that throughout the analyzed periods, a master frame, "violence against women," resonated in public opinion, and this issue was recognized as a problem by the state that established measures to confront the problem.

We sought to understand the importance and contribution of knowledge transfer (KT) of workers in the retirement phase in a higher education institution (HEI). Such research is justified by the fact that KT in retirement is approached by different areas but with little emphasis on administrative sciences. A qualitative case study was carried out based on the theoretical framework of knowledge creation and transference, in which retired workers and managers and young workers participated. Semi-structured interviews and focus groups were carried out with the participation of 32 people and non-participant observation with about 260 workers. Data were organized with the support of NVivo®11 software, triangulated, and analyzed using content analysis. It is stated that KT contributes to improve work relationships and bring people together, acquires a greater degree of autonomy and recognition, perceives opportunities for professional and personal growth, and contributes to the HEI since the institutional history is valued, processes are improved, organizational costs are reduced, and the organizational climate is optimized. It is concluded that different knowledge is important for HEIs and the people who are part of them, and the need to implement actions is highlighted so that knowledge is not lost when the worker retires.

This article proposes developments between socio-spatial formation as a manifestation of structural racism with mass incarceration and violence against the Black population in a geography of survival, which can bring contributions to the spatial turn in organizational studies. We start from a consideration of social space, city, and race, indicating that Black peoples’ right to inhabit and live in the city is strongly affected by structural racism. Therefore, the question isn’t “how is the structure of everyday life in the city?” but “how is it possible for Black people to live in the city?” The literature on race and city indicates soft areas, hard areas, and Black spaces. Mass incarceration and violence against Black people, also exposed in police approaches, dates back to the history of enslavement, a constituent element of cities, in the classification of corporeality, a limiting factor for the Black population to appropriate and participate in the city. Thus a spatial perspective of the racial relations in the city denotes how the urban space is produced today.

In February 2022, Russia invaded the eastern territories of Ukraine. Three days after the invasion, pressured by public opinion and the British government, British Petroleum (BP) announced the abandonment of its almost 20% equity shareholding in Russian state-owned Rosneft at an estimated cost of USD 25 billion for the company. The case puts the reader in the position of CEO Bernard Looney to reflect on the redesign of the company’s strategy with regard to assessing the impact of political risk on its other businesses in the world. The case was designed for undergraduate and graduate students in Business Administration, International Relations, and related areas who want to address topics such as oil geopolitics, business strategy, political risk, and international business.

This research analyzes the role of accounting in the slave system of Brazil in the 19th century, looking at the records and inventories of the slave trade and the accounting of the slave buyers. The study had a qualitative approach using historiographical research. In terms of media, it was bibliographic and documentary with an exploratory objective. Part of the documentary research was carried out in the online database Slave Voyages and in person at the Historical and Geographical Institute of Pernambuco (IAHGP). Based on the analysis of the documental sources, from the slave trade to the purchase of the slaves by plantation owners, the slaves were registered in the accounts as merchandise/ property to generate wealth. Accounting is considered to have reproduced in its records and financial statements the naturalization of power relations established by the colonial system. This study contributed to the reflection on the role of accounting professionals who, from a more critical perspective, could have understood the process of objectification to which the enslaved were subjected. It also indicates that they cooperated in the abolitionist movement.

Entrepreneurial parents are important agents for transmitting entrepreneurial intentions to their children. Recent studies have highlighted that parental influence on children’s entrepreneurial careers can increase when peers are of the same gender (gender homophily) – the effects become greater in father-son or mother-daughter dyads. However, exposure to entrepreneurial parents alone is insufficient to explain their children’s entrepreneurial intentions, as dimensions such as the nature of communication/interaction and financial incentives can impact this relationship. However, these transmission factors/channels have received little attention in the literature. Thus, this study examines whether having entrepreneurial parents affects their children’s propensity to become entrepreneurs, analyzing the main transmission factors/channels and whether gender homophily moderates this effect. The sample consisted of 20,623 university students who participated in the Global University Entrepreneurial Spirit Students’ Survey -GUESSS Brazil 2018. Data were analyzed using Multiple Linear Regression and Probit Regression Models. The results suggest that having an entrepreneurial father or entrepreneurial parents (father and mother) is associated with an increase in the probability of an individual becoming an entrepreneur. This effect is greater in the case of males in the father-son dyad. In addition, with regard to transmission channels, it was found that parental influence on the entrepreneurial career is exerted, above all, by the professional models that parents represent (career-related modeling), comments/compliments from parents (verbal encouragement), and financial/material incentive (instrumental assistance).

Music production accounts for spreading ideologies since genres are intrinsically linked to political discourses. Bregafunk music fulfills this role in Recife City’s music scenario, since its music video production portrays the city’s outskirts as places of sociability and affection, as well as of ambition for better social and economic conditions. Based on the Foucauldian theory, favelas (shantytowns) are an emblematic example of resistance. Thus, the current investigation is guided by the following research question: how does Bregafunk music video production evidence favelas’ resistance? Foucauldian Discourse Analysis was applied to 777 Bregafunk music videos posted on Youtube between September 2012 and September 2020. Results have evidenced a discursive formation showing higher favela representativeness in society. On the one hand, this discursive formation is featured by the pursuit of empowering minorities and citizens who live in the outskirts; and, on the other hand, by the appreciation of favelas. These findings have evidenced favelas’ resistance by representing political identities inserted in this social space. This process reveals a specific ethos that depicts an uprising based on political discourses against what is often categorized as socially normal; it is featured as alternative and resistant to the status quo.
