Mental and behavioral disorders are the third leading cause of incapacity in police work. This research analyzes, through Clinical Sociology and Critical Discourse Analysis, the context of the work of the Military Police of the Federal District and its relationship with the mental illness of police officers. This was an ethnographic study. Participant observation notes and interviews contributed to data collection and corpus formation. The analysis explored the representational meaning of the discourses using the following categories: transitivity, representation of social actors, and lexical selection. The results point to the organization of work, interpersonal conflicts, weakening social bonds, and abuse of power as the main triggers of mental illness. Paying attention to the mental health care of police officers must be a continuous action of the corporation and part of the Federal District’s agenda, promoting initiatives to protect professionals and, consequently, the safety of society.

The article discusses how the new information and communication technologies (NICTs) interrelate with the control and surveillance of systems through the case study of blockchain technologies. Initially, considering the debates in the sociology of work and the resources for a qualitative methodology, we analyze how blockchain technologies arise due to the economic crisis and the need for regulation of the post-2008 crisis markets. In the first part, we look at the surveillance and market control dimensions that emerged in this context. In the second part, we discuss the emergence of the crypto-assets market led by Bitcoin and, mainly, the technological dimension of the blockchain network. We understand that, although there is an attempt to analyze Bitcoin as a financialization of capital, the measurement of technical advantages and disadvantages in the creation of the blockchain network is a substantial factor and of significant impact on the decision-making of companies in the most varied fields. The last part of the article points out, through the quantitative analysis of reports and surveys, a meeting of the operability offered by blockchain technology and the expectation of implementation of this technology in various business sectors, elucidating the competitive advantages listed by them. We seek, then, to understand how implementing these new technologies deepens the dimensions of control and surveillance of production chains.

Our article aims to identify managers’ perceptions and actions for inclusion of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in organizations that employ these professionals in Brazil. The number of people diagnosed with autism in the US has increased, according to 2021 data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). In comparison with the USA, from the transposition of the data, Brazil counts a number close to 4.48 million of autistic people (Paiva, 2021) in 2021. Most Brazilian organizations do not offer minimum conditions for the inclusion of these professionals (Leopoldino, 2018), and the topic is still scarce in the international and national academic literature, especially empirically. Semi-structured interviews were carried out with six executives from national and foreign companies that hire professionals with ASD. Through thematic analysis, managers’ perceptions of these professionals and the inclusion actions adopted by them were identified. The results indicate that the perceptions of managers are based on stereotypes but these end up changing as they live with professionals with ASD. Regarding actions for inclusion, the importance of a culture of inclusion was identified, as well as the monitoring of professionals with ASD by intermediaries at all stages of their careers and the attention of those involved with their health. The results provide useful findings for organizations that promote diversity and show that actions for the inclusion of people with ASD are still incipient in our country.

This study investigates the course of the transformations of violence present in the human-animal relationship in multiple periods of time, using artistic expressions to contribute to this theme. The study uses a multidisciplinary approach from the fields of Arts, History, and Philosophy seeking contributions to the literature on marketing and consumer behavior. Visual critical analysis is the methodology used to analyze six works of art from different historical periods and to understand the human-animal relationship over time. Findings suggest that forms of violence are present in the transforming human-animal relationship. The research challenges the marketing domain of the discussion about this relationship, limited to positive experiences with companion animals; it brings interpretations of the ways of violence in the human-animal relationship over time to understand the meanings and practices of the present; adds elements aimed at discussions and reflections necessary for researchers and marketing professionals, on the human-animal relationship and violence.

This article contributes to the literature that establishes a conversation between institutional theory and marketing by focusing on a topic of growing interest: market institutionalization. It suggests a research agenda related to legitimacy, institutional logic, contested markets, and market spatiality. This agenda explains under-researched topics and suggests future studies to refine knowledge about market institutionalization. We also highlight types of markets to be investigated, such as legal weapons, jogo do bicho (an illegal Brazilian gambling game), sports betting, xenotransplant, fossil fuel cars, beef consumption, marijuana, and edible insects. In these markets, institutionalization is still unclear. Therefore, the theorization about the formation and transformation of these markets can further our knowledge about them. Finally, this article argues that the Brazilian context is fertile to research these topics, either analyzing it on its own or with other spatial contexts. It concludes by suggesting that the topic and research questions suggested here enable a richer conversation between institutional theory and marketing. Moreover, it can advance our understanding of the institutionalization of different types of contemporaneous markets.

This theoretical essay explores theories related to business models and dynamic knowledge-based capabilities in the digital transformation scenario. First, the main theoretical foundations that conceptualize the themes of business models, innovation in business models, digital transformation, and dynamic capabilities based on knowledge are pointed out. Subsequently, two propositions are presented and discussed. We propose that digital capability is dynamic as it affects the company’s knowledge capacity, just as the dynamic knowledge capability can stimulate digital capability. We also propose that not only dynamic knowledge-based capability is necessary for developing a sustainable business model, but the emergence of immediate profits can affect the business model in the company’s future. This essay brings theoretical contributions, which can be used in future works, and practical and managerial contributions, which managers and decision-makers can use.

The case shows the dilemma faced by Marcel Gewerc, co-founder and CEO of Trinks.com, a company that offered a digital solution to facilitate the management of beauty salons and allow online booking of services. Faced with opportunities and threats from inside and outside the beauty industry, Marcel was evaluating alternatives to leverage his business. The case has been developed to stimulate discussions about envelopment mainly in Strategy disciplines in lato sensu and stricto sensu postgraduate courses in Business Administration, but it has also been tested with great success in undergraduate classes. It is expected that, at the end of the case discussion, students will be able to achieve the following learning objectives: (a) understand the platform business model (b) understand the exponential nature of digital platforms; (c) understand the business ecosystem concept; (d) understand the concept of adjacency of digital platforms; (e) understand envelopment strategies.
