Beekeepers in Mayan rural communities have formed microenterprises as an alternative to improve their business conditions, in a market context dominated by large companies. This article analyzes factors that determine the sustainability of two microenterprises from the Tankuché community, in Campeche, adjacent to the Los Petenes biosphere reserve, and the socio-environmental benefits they generate. The Sustainable Livelihoods framework was used, emphasizing the cultural dimension. The information was obtained through field stays, in-depth interviews, a semi-structured survey, and access to secondary sources. The findings show that training, motivation, group cohesion and the extension of networks, while mitigating limitations in physical and financial capital, are the factors that determine the permanence of microenterprises. Likewise, the enterprises, although they generate modest income in a context of economic-labor pluriactivity, contribute to strengthening the cultural identity of their members, generate satisfaction and provide access to new life opportunities. The case study suggests that it is necessary to implement public policies that consider the cultural particularities of the operation of microenterprises in rural contexts, considering their territoriality, their values and the desires of their members.

Endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDC) are present in surface water bodies that supply water to the population. One of them is bisphenol A (BPA), which is listed as a carcinogen. This research addresses its degradation through the ozone reaction and presents a likely pathway established by analyzing products and degradation products using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). BPA degradation was carried out under pseudo-first-order conditions, where liquid phase ozone was the limiting reactive, in doses of ≈2.29 × 10-4 M and BPA doses of 1.25 × 10-4, 17.5 × 10-4, and 35.0 × 10-4 M, looking to have molar ratios [BPA]> [O3]; the oxidation reaction was carried out in a stopped-flow system that allows obtaining results in the order of seconds. The degradation pathway obtained shows the rupture of one of the benzene rings, decreasing the phenolic toxicity of the BPA compound. The proposed pathway can contribute to the understanding of the degradation of BPA in the environment and tertiary treatment processes with the use of ozone. Likewise, it is intended to contribute with new data to the issues of drinking water treatment to offer safe water to the population.

Debido al incremento mundial en la población de 60 años o más se ha buscado conocer el papel que tienen las  herramientas tecnológicas para favorecer el bienestar en este grupo poblacional, sin embargo, la mayoría de los estudios que se han realizado aportan información principalmente de países desarrollados y en menor medida se conocen las características que presenta este sector de la población en países latinoamericanos; es por ello, que en esta investigación cuantitativa de diseño no experimental, transversal y explicativo, se analizó la relación de algunas variables sociodemográficas y psicológicas (percepción de salud, soledad y actitud hacia las computadoras) con el uso de internet en personas mayores. Participaron 4588 personas mayores (62.1% mujeres y 37.9% hombres), con una media de edad de 70.15 años. Se aplicaron instrumentos que evaluaron las actitudes hacia las computadoras, percepción de soledad, uso de herramientas tecnológicas y un cuestionario con preguntas sociodemográficas. Los resultados de la regresión logística mostraron que el incremento en la eficacia e interés en las computadoras, una mejor percepción de salud, mayores ingresos económicos y nivel escolar, así como menor edad y soledad están asociados con un aumento en la probabilidad de que las personas mayores usen internet de manera frecuente.

Although many countries in Latin America have signed the Inter-American Convention on the Protection of the Human Rights of Older People, much remains to be done in this population. The objective of this work is to know the current needs expressed by older adults in both urban and rural areas in a population of Mexico. By carrying out 5 focus groups (3 in urban areas and 2 in rural areas), together with the prioritization of the needs identified through a self-applicable and anonymous questionnaire, it was identified that the need considered in the first place was health care, followed by adaptations in the home for older adults in the entire group. The needs of culture/entertainment and administrative support, although they did not reach a significant difference in prioritization, the first presented a tendency to be more of a priority for the urban area and the second for the rural area. Exercise, training/development, and legal support were identified as having higher priority in rural areas than in urban areas. The need for clothing was identified in the last places of priority with no difference in selection between the groups.

Como es bien sabido, las misiones dominicanas de Nueva España se iniciaron al desembarcar en costas mexicanas, procedentes de La Española, fray Tomás Ortiz, fray Domingo de Betanzos y otros diez frailes, el 19 de junio de 1526. In this article I maintain that Marcus Aurelius does not subscribe to the heterodox axiology of the stoic Aristo of Chios, but that he is faithful to the orthodox Stoic axiology. In rejecting that adherence, I differ from Julia Annas and Geert Roskam who see a strong influence of Aristo on Marcus Aurelius. I also differ from Pierre Hadot because, even though he rejects that influence as well, I do not totally agree with his reasoning. In order to question that influence, I will offer a reasoning different from his.

The aim of this paper lies on reviewing and questioning the topic of providence and fate among the Stoics according to the very few information transmitted by Diogenes Laertius in the Book 7 of his Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers, so the brief reconstruction built by the Greek doxographer could be evaluated. Since Diogenes confirms his debt to previous authors at the time of summarizing Stoic thinking, not only through direct sources but indirect as well, it shall be possible to compare his data with other testimonies which Arnim (SVF) and Boeri-Salles (BS) have brought together into their compilations.
