This study analyzes historical texts written by Chilean 8th-grade students during a didactic sequence based on heuristics from the Stanford History Education Group. Using sourcing, contextualization, and corroboration strategies enabled students to write interpretations that are more complex. They also constructed historical arguments autonomously, guided by the teacher, the article’s first author. Our findings reveal a non-linear learning process in historical inquiry and writing in the classroom. We argue that teaching historical writing should aim to build democratic schools committed to social justice. However, we caution that an excessive focus on heuristics may inhibit the discussion of historical interpretations and controversies, resulting in more skillful but not necessarily more democratic students. We call for reflection on this key challenge for contemporary social studies education.

What do we remember when we commemorate October 12th? How is this date inscribed, commemorated and taught in schools? What are the tensions between school teaching and the contested construction of a collective memory? This event was renamed "Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity" in Argentina in 2010. The phrase cited in the title was published on Twitter/X in October 2023 by Vice President Victoria Villarruel (then a candidate), celebrating "Hispanic Heritage Day" and establishing a relationship between the commemorated event and the construction of her own identity. In this paper, we explore the link between the official objectives of the anniversary over time, school practices and celebrations based on surveys of practicing teachers, retirees, and teacher training students. Finally, we analise public disputes surrounding the meaning of the event in the speeches of prominent political figures of the last five years.

Starting from a dialogue between the contributions of the history of education and the teaching of history, in this work I analyze the historical stories present in the curricular materials of history teachers of a secondary school in the Province of Buenos Aires. From this I warn and reflect on some tensions and challenges that these stories present to think about the formation of the citizen subject for democratic life. I am particularly interested in investigating and analyzing how from school, especially from the teaching of history, senses of citizen identity and with it a way of being a subject are transmitted through historical stories. In the first part, I develop the theoretical methodological framework built, from a framework between Latin American and European authors, to be able to carry out the analysis of the historical stories. Later I address some historical stories that history teachers used for their classes.

This article uses a reflective approach to analyze the production of a new generation of indigenous visual artists in the context of the decolonial turn in Brazilian art. The methodology involves qualitative and interpretive analysis based on direct observa-tions of works presented in various exhibitions, as well as a critical review of specialized literature. From these observations, similarities between the artistic practices of new indigenous art and contemporary art were identified and examined, focusing on how these aesthetics promote the connection between art and life, aesthetics and politics. The concept of "aiesthesis," developed by Argentine semiotician Walter Mignolo, serves as the central theoretical basis and is related to theo-retical principles established by renowned authors such as Jacques Rancière, Nicolas Bourriaud, and Anne Cauquelin

Baroque painting developed in the workshops of the Americas reflects devotional value influenced by the directives of the Council of Trent, as well as by European art books, engravings, and prints, with the aim of promoting evangelization and presenting discourses on exemplary lives as models to follow in colonial society. This article offers an iconographic approach to the work of the Neogranadine painter Baltasar Vargas de Figueroa, considering literary references such as hagiog-raphy, image theory, and symbol dictionaries to examine the visual codes conveyed by his work, centered on The Martyrdom of Saint Barbara.

This article proposes a systematization of the modalities of transgression against the concept of the hegemonic machine, implemented by contem-porary Latin American works that utilize electronic technologies. Through approaches from the phi-losophy of technology and the history and theory of art, the article suggests three categorizations to address these contraventions: a) unboxing, b) destabilization, and c) deautomation. The transgressions enacted by the behaviors of technological devices in the arts also entail strategies of disobedience toward dominant political structures

The reconstruction of the previously extinct indi-genous Kaahiirkoanhe drum is considered a crucial contribution to the cultural reclamation process of the Kaamash-Hu and Mokaná indigenous commu-nities. Through oral tradition spanning at least four generations, the construction process, meaning, and importance of this drum in the ceremonies and festivities of these communities have been pre-served. The reconstruction process has enabled an understanding of its worldview as a symbol of identity connecting various dualities. This study highlights the importance of reconstructing the Kaahiirkoanhe drum from a perspective guided by archaeomusicology, ethnomusicology, and ethno-lutherie, opening discussions about its recognition as intangible cultural heritage and its risks, while aiming to contribute to the preservation and dynamization of the cultural identity of the Kaamash-Hu and Mokaná indigenous communities.
