Over the last three decades, the Spanish cities with the largest demographic dimension have undergone profound spatial, social and economic transformations. The new urban economies have played an essential role in the acceleration of such transformations, entailing a range of both positive and negative impacts at the spatial, social, economic, and environmental levels. This article presents a quantitative analysis of how the implementation of new forms of urban economy —framed in what is academically called global capitalism— has encouraged social polarization of the cities of Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia, as well as a significant increase in intra-urban residential segregation. The article concludes with the argument that this deterioration in levels of social polarization and residential segregation reflect the advance towards polarized urban models.

PhD holders are considered key stakeholders in the current knowledge-based economy due to their highly specialized knowledge and their strategic competencies. This background is crucial to facilitate knowledge transfer processes across organizations in innovation systems. Nevertheless, several studies have raised the alarm about the increasing difficulties experienced by some PhDs to access to permanent positions fitting with their qualification level and salary expectations.  This study aims to describe the Spanish labour market for PhD holders in order to assess the extent of precariousness and overqualification in each knowledge field. This study analyses data extracted from the «Survey on the Labour Insertion of University Graduates», conducted by the National Statistics Institute in 2019.  The results show that the PhD degree does not protect PhD holders against job insecurity, in particular in science disciplines. In addition to this, this degree does not necessarily give access to a qualified job.

In the interior design studio, creativity is an essential component, since it is where the student explores diverse skills according to professional practice, aimed at providing solutions to interior spaces in an attractive and efficient way. The research objective is to identify notions about the creativity concept among students, as well as characteristics associated with interior design projects that are considered outstanding in the academic context. Work was done with a non-probabilistic sample chosen at convenience according to the specific UACJ students’ profile in a current design studio subject; the approach was carried out through the application of a survey, elaborated based on topics identified by experts in the development of interior design projects. From the results’ statical analysis adjectives associated with creativity were identified, highlighting imaginative, ingenious, and novel, as well as the main correlations between the variables in question. Three important components associated to creativity also stood out: relevance, innovation, and  authenticity. It is essential to identify the perception of creativity from the university context, to establish a definition that integrates the indicators associated with it in the interior design projects and to verify the expected results of the design proposals.

The imaginary as an intangible element present in society manifests itself as a fundamental component in the formation of the individual and the conformation of the collective. The operational forms developed by him, within a city such as everyday life, can be altered by the social imaginary contained in its context, to the point of breaking their daily narratives. This relationship is fundamental, since it is part of the development of the individual in his current future, and his participation in the constructed scenarios and his future projection. Under these theoretical foundations, a deductive conceptual analysis is developed in this article through a bibliographic review of imaginaries and everyday life, with the aim of establishing theoretical positions to support design projects aimed at recognizing these themes, for the resolution of problems and evolution of urban contexts. From this bibliographic review, a case study will highlight the influence of the urban context and the imaginaries, in their daily development and future aspirations of individuals, as well as the possible actions in their urban context, all through observations and methodological analysis made from the storytelling tool.
