One of the particularities of contemporary narrative fragment lays in its self-consciousness and its reflective proclivity about its unfinished condition. This recurrent peculiarity will be analyzed from the novel Permanente obra negra, of Mexican author Vivian Abenshushan, which mixes research about fragmentarism and use of textual and technic mechanisms of distributed cognition, mechanisms that will be examined from a neurocognitive approach. Abenshushan’s novel (or narrative piece) constitutes an example of questioning all the dimensions of the literary experience and, in some way, a work that proposes a non-unitary narrative poetics to 21th century.

Cervantes provides in Don Quixote a portrayal of human consciousness that highlights the connection between body, mind, and environment. While his portrayal is in line with the ideas of his time about the cognitive and emotional processes of human consciousness and its development, Cervantes' contribution to the cognitive science of his time rests on his creation of a "laboratory" or "live" demonstration of these processes and the impact they have on the individual and his social context. Sancho personifies the central themes in Cervantes' representation of human consciousness: the development of our rational faculties and control of our passions, via the acquisition of adequate habits of body and mind, and the acknowledgement of our abilities and limitations. Through Sancho, Cervantes brings us a complex and dynamic prototype of literary consciousness that inaugurates the powerful tool of psychological exploration that constitutes the novel.

Ambiguity, as an outstanding property, of an essential part of poetry has generated multiple theoretical debates about its nature and function. This discussions, ranging from the emphasis on clearing up its effects to the celebration its presence. From the interpretive triangle represented by the author, the reader and the text, this article proposes a route through the different analyzes that, since the mid-twentieth century, have addressed the category and idea of ambiguity in literary studies. After this, we will approach to the pragmatics synthesis in which these three vertices converge. Once situated in this framework, we will try to show how some proposals from cognitive approaches have helped to understand a very important part of the processes involved in reading poetry (beyond those explained by formalist, intentionalist or textualist perspectives), but not yet to explain why the ambiguity can be consciously appreciated.

The verse “porque por ti pintan de azul los hospitales” of the poem «Oda a Federico García Lorca», by Pablo Neruda, presents several interpretive enigmas, which go beyond the symbolic. In this paper we intend to investigate the reading possibilities from the teachings that cognitive poetics offers us. To do this, we will integrate various points of view into the analysis to help us better understand its scope and survival.

This paper investigates the relationship between consciousness and emotions through the representation of desire in the work Creciente fértil (1989) by Clara Janés. Contextualized within Cognitive Literary Theory, the study synthesizes several philosophical and neuroscientific considerations about desire with the purpose of proposing an interpretation of Clara Janés’ work based on the poetological hypothesis that the experience and satisfaction of desire fulfill a homeostatic function. From this derives an inquiry about the ways in which desire is intertwined with knowledge in literary language and about the structures of subjectivity with which poetic thought operates.

This paper aims to address the awareness of silence in Hugo Mujica from three significant ways that run through his work. When we point out the phenomenon of consciousness it is to illustrate the philosophical, theological and poetic considerations that orbit around silence in the work of the Argentine poet. With this we want to underline the arrest of the continuum of consciousness through the tool of silence. Therefore, this work aims to establish the different lines that express this silencing of consciousness or, to be more exact, the arrest of the logos that tyrannizes words. As we know, his work drinks from the apophatic way, but it is worth pointing out those directions that cross in this post-religious poetics. In this sense, it is worth highlighting a penchant for the metaphysical transcript “[i]n the word, / silence is transcended, / with silence, the word is transcended” (Mujica, 2014: 209). This philosophical inscription responds precisely to the consciousness that moves from the binomial "word and silence" to the visual configuration of silence in the body of the poem.
