Humanity is in the midst of an unprecedented climate change (CC) crisis and has recently been plunged into a more imminent one related to COVID-19. This study conducts a multimodal content analysis of 1110 CC- and COVID-19-focused cartoons by leading US conservative cartoonists. The results of this study reveal that, while cartoonists use scientifically refuted arguments to deny that change is occurring in some of the global climate indicators, however they show subtle and less frequent skepticism when depicting the COVID-19 theme. In both cases, this skepticism is aimed at feeding back into a climate of general distrust and tension that seems to be supported by science denialist movements.

Cultural journalism disseminates, promotes, recreates and documents symbolic production. Pastoriza (2006) defines it as a form of culture that helps to define, give voice to or exclude narratives and subjects that form the culture of an era. This study addresses the construction of culture in everyday journalistic work. To do so, it is based on a comparative research on the weight of the representation of culture in local media in Seville (Spain) and Porto Alegre (Brazil). The methodology used is content analysis, applied to 3,709 pieces published between 2013 and 2018 in the culture section of the Spanish newspapers Diario de Sevilla and ABC de Sevilla and the Brazilian newspapers Zero Hora and Correio do Povo. It is concluded that this journalism has little autonomy from the economic logic of the cultural industries, as they share the representation of a commercial culture, to the detriment of local identity.

Educommunication can be one of the most useful tools to approach and train citizens in matters of public interest and high transversality that allow social change oriented to ecological transition. This is possible thanks to the conjunction of formative processes intrinsic to the professional practice of communication and media tools. This article aims to analyze longitudinally over three years (2019, 2020 and 2021), and transversally in three different media (press, radio and television), how the Spanish media offer educational-communicative content on climate change (CC), assessing its intensity and educational mediation. The results offer a set of perspectives that could easily be coupled as indicators on how to offer a more complete, contextualized and formative vision from the perspective of environmental education, taking into account aspects of educommunication that could become effective recommendations of immediate application for the media.

As the consensus on climate change has moved from the scientific arena to public opinion, denialist arguments have moderated, adopting a more subtle and complex skeptical discourse. However, only a few studies on these discourses are based on a relevant number of journalistic contents. The present study analyzes skeptical arguments in Spanish print and digital media between 2015 and 2021, with a sample of 147 articles from 35 newspapers, selected from an aggregated search technique of key concepts in Factiva and after reviewing fragments in more than 5000 articles. The results show that the argumentative framing is primarily ideological and that the idea of freedom of opinion functions as the main vector. Meanwhile, the economic framing guides the skeptical positioning on the measures to be adopted in the face of climate change.

This article examines the predominant narratives and intertextualities in memetic images of climate change. An exploratory analysis of 145 specific memes on climate change has been carried out through the website www.9gag.com, a reference in this type of format. Memes have been considered as cultural units with a high capacity to generate engagement in users, through positioning, irony and the feeling of belonging to a community. It has been observed that, in certain aspects such as the so-called “discourse of consequences”, the same patterns predominate in memes as in traditional media. However, intrinsic aspects of this format such as intertextuality, have proven to be of great value for effective communication of the complex reality of climate change in a context such as the current one, where the push for affective and polarised discourses is increasingly perceived.

The full digital connectivity of the audience and the ubiquitous and instantaneous access to information and entertainment have watered down the significance of radio schedules, which are still essential for transmitting the identifying sound brand of each operator. This research undertakes a diachronic study of talk radio programming on the main Spanish commercial networks (SER, COPE and Onda Cero) between 1999 and 2020 to determine if their design has adapted to the new context. Through a quantitative and qualitative analysis of formal and content variables in the three channels, the research finds a progressive reduction in the offer and expressive treatment of the programs, which reflect a simplification and homogeneity of themes and genres that is not very competitive with the emergence and increasing diversity of on-demand audio platforms.

Abstract: Justice is essential for human coexistence, where there is some kind of conflict.  Be it family, professional or other denomination or type.  The purpose of this article is to reflect on the methods of conflict resolution duly framed in Brazilian legislation.  In addition, it is also important to assess in these brief observations how much the majority of the Brazilian population is unaware of its possibilities.  Justice today in Brazil is not only done through the Judiciary, it is also done through negotiation, arbitration, dispute board, restorative justice, conciliation and Mediation.  The latter, due to its characteristics and principles, breaks with different paradigms, making it unique and, therefore, innovative.  It is a simple, dialogic and necessary instrument for human relationships, when in moments of conflict.  Such innovation has become very evident in recent times with the Covid 19 pandemic, when individuals or legal entities are forced to undergo some type of social isolation overnight.  New technologies have offered a way to minimize distance, where conflict resolution methods, in particular Mediation, seem to have adapted quickly. Keywords: Conflict resolution.  Virtual Mediation.  Justice.  Covid-19.
