Scorpionism in León, Guanajuato are a public health problem, with a scorpion sting incidence rate of 109/10,000 inhabitants. The basic epidemiological aspects about the distribution of the problem in the city are unknown, which would allow a reduction in the incidence. A retrolective survey of the people stung from January to December 1996 was performed. Variables of stung patients were analyzed, and the distribution per basic urban geostatistics area (BUGA) was located. 9,485 patients that met the inclusion criteria were studied. Epidemiological maps both by incidence rate and absolute frequencies were performed, and a heterogeneous distribution was found. 5 BUGAs had a higher than 200/10,000 inhabitants incidence, and a frequency of stung people in the range of 200 to 500 (high risk). Distribution and location of the greater incidence areas of accidents by scorpion sting in León City have been established, in which it is necessary to establish primary attention measures to avoid the sting.

Strategies for the maintenance of roads are typically determined based on technical criteria, that use indicators which were obtained using sophisticated equipment and interpreted by the expert on roads (e. g. international roughness index, pavement deformation, and physical condition evaluation). However, road user’s opinion is not considered. This paper analyses the pertinence of considering the road user’s opinion to obtain parameters that could be used as an additional criteria when evaluating the quality of the offered service and defining maintenance strategies by road operator organisms. Obtained parameters are validated and using the Delphi technique they were weighted and assembled into a unique value termed Road User Service Level Indicator — Indicadordel Nivel de Servicio del Usuario de las Carreteras (INSUC).

The plants lacking a defense system based on similar antibodies to which exists in animals, bases their protection on physical characteristics and in a series of components that the own plant synthesizes. Inside those compounds, the proteins constitute one of the main defense sources, not only for their high specificity and efficiency, but because some of them are also highly regulated, their synthesis responding to the attack of the insects orby pathogens. These proteins represent an interesting alternative to produce plants with better resistance characteristics, since through breeding mechanisms or introducing the gene a susceptible plant, by means of the genetic engineering. The knowledge of its action mechanisms represents an important form to learn how to combat plagues and illnesses of the plants, without having to use compound highly polluting, like the commercial insecticides.

When common people listen the word “oxide” usually they only think of the rust that forms on the surface of some metallic objects, but the term, however, embraces a wide variety of substances. Water, for instance, is a true oxide. Oxides are so many and common that it is hard to believe that these, or some of their derivatives, compose most of the mineral world and in some cases they are vital for life. It is interesting to note that there are two main classes of oxides: acidic and alkaline. These types of oxides are chemical antagonists in such a way that neutralize each other producing salts, some kind of very stable substances. Neutralizing reactions are very important for both the natural world and people’s everyday life.

The memory processes, including recall, are influenced by the objective and logical structure of knowledge, as well as by subjective and motivational aspects. The frequency and distribution of units in a free recall task provide information about the organization of memory and the accesibility of material. The objective of this work was to investigate prospective memory as a function of personality (i. e. selfregulation), goal´s commitment quality (i. e. obligation, intention and desire) and context for which they are generated (i. e. labor and not-labor). Two instruments for free recall of goals were developed and were applied along with Action Control Scale to 70 hotel employees. The results indicate that the self-regulatory tendency, the quality of commitment and the context influence in the amount and structure of remembered goals.

This study compares lineal models (ML), contingency tables using Chisquare (TC) and logistic regression (RL) on their efficiency to test hypothesis about differences of percentages between two treatments. Efficiency was defined as the probability of not commit error type I. A series of simulated cases with 4 and 25 repetitions were analyzed. Considering the lower efficiency of ML, particularly with few replicates and the limitations of TC for the analysis of the binary variables, the results of this preliminary study show that in agreement with the theoretical expectations, the RL method, readily available in several tested programs of statistical software, should be prefered for the analysis of experiments with binary dependent variables.
