This article studies the intra-urban distribution of the population and of the employment in Mexican cities. The purpose is to identify and delimit the central area of the city, and the possible sub-centers, or alternative nodes of employment concentration, by using spatial analysis tools. The results show that the centers are areas of great hierarchy in the spatial structure of Mexican cities, and some of them, especially those with more than a half million inhabitants, have developed sub-centers and a bifunctional or a polycentric configuration. However, the intra-urban organization of the population conforms more to a monocentric model than to a polycentric one.

The transformation of urban centers into historic ones follows a strategy aimed at tourism. The government acts upon public space as a trigger, not only for the tertiarization of land use but also to modify the existing social dynamics in these areas. Through a longitudinal temporal approach, it becomes evident that beyond the change in residents’ perception of public space, the strategy pursued clearly shows a modification in the public-private relationship, assigning the latter a complementary function to commercial activity, which fosters social exclusion.

Residents of Mexico City (CDMX) constantly suffer flooding due to the changes in rainfall intensity, combined with urban sprawl. However, the ensuing damage does not have the same impact on everyone in the city; therefore, it is important to address the contrasting vulnerability of Mexico City’s population. In this book, Karen Rendón analyzes the relationship between vulnerability, the threat of flooding, and its social aspect, in the context of the capital’s sixteen alcaldías or boroughs.

Over its 55-year history, the Andean Community (can) has experienced periods of both growth and crisis. This article examines the possibilities and challenges of reintegrating Chile and Venezuela into the organization, as proposed in the XXII Declaration of the Andean Presidential Council in 2022. The study employs a conceptual approach and a qualitative methodology that combines critical analysis of secondary sources with semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders to assess the benefits of integration. It further explores trade flows and key exchange indicators among member countries, the can’s recent commercial and non-commercial agenda, and potential points of convergence with the policies of Chile and Venezuela. Drawing on this analysis, the study outlines possible scenarios for the reintegration of both countries, incorporating the perspectives of key stakeholders.
