In Spain, the economic crisis was characterised by cut-backs in public spending on education services and a reduction in households’ purchasing power. This article aims: (1) to analyse public spending per student in private, publicly-funded private and public schools from 2007 to 2012; (2) to determine whether household spending on education per student rose in that period; and (3) to ascertain whether the differences among types of school by their students’ socio-economic backgrounds varied in the period studied. Public spending for public and publicly-funded private schools was cut back and increased for private schools. Household spending rose in public and in private institutions and was stable in publicly-funded private schools. Inter-category differences in the breakdown of student bodies by socio-economic background were not observed to change.

In this paper we present some results of the European Project Erasmus K1 ACTTEA (2012-2015) in which four countries participated (Estonia, Finland, The Netherlands and Spain). The objective of the project was to assess what kind of knowledge pre-service teachers learn when teaChing in the Practicum setting. An empirical study was conducted in each country following three phases. video recordings were made in sessions; analysis of critical incidents; and an individual report of learning was performed. Three conditions were established: Individual reflection; Dialogue among peers; and Dialogue with a tutor. An inductive procedure based on propositional and thematic analysis was followed, and the Chi Square Test and V Cramer were used. Results from the Spanish data show that student teachers under the condition C are better able to learn a kind of sophisticated and generalizable knowledge, while conditions A and B allow students to better understand what they had done.

This study analyzes the beliefs of 141 pre-service teachers on the ability and confidence needed to teach mathematics. To identify these beliefs, two previously validated questionnaires were administered and data was analyzed using a quantitative methodology. The results show that over half of students believe that not everybody has the same mathematical ability, a significant percentage are less confident teaching mathematics than other subjects, and students who exhibited more positive beliefs studied a high school program with a concentration in science. The results provide information that can be used to design didactic strategies that promote pre-service teachers’ professional development during their initial training.

As part of the ongoing renewal of teaching methodologies, universities are encouraging the use of virtual learning environments as a basic tool in face-to-face teaching settings, as they make it possible to personalize and introduce flexibility into education. The objective of this study is to provide empirical evidence on students’ perception of improvement in their learning by adopting and using virtual environments in traditional classroom settings, on the basis of an extended Technology Acceptance Model. The study population comprises 251 first-year students at the School of Economics of the University of Valencia (Universitat de València). The study results, obtained through structural equations, provide empirical evidence of a relationship in which perceived usefulness and subjective norms positively influence intention to use, which is a determining factor in students’ perceived learning.

The growing integration of mobile technology into classrooms is producing new environments that innovate teaching methods. This descriptive, survey-based study analyzes trainee teachers’ perceptions of the use of Socrative and its implications for learning processes. Data was collected through a questionnaire designed ad hoc. The study sample comprised university students (n= 168) from the bachelor’s degree in early childhood education at the School of Education Sciences of a Spanish university. The results of this study indicate significant changes in students’ learning processes, social relations, and teaching methodologies.

This paper examines the value of schooling for students of elite high schools in Mexico City. The study begins by documenting the fact that these students’ academic performance is poor in comparison to students of similar socio-economic status in other countries, and on the basis of their results in standardized national tests. Clearly, such unsatisfactory academic performance by these students, who attend private institutions with a wealth of resources, cannot be attributed to financial hardship and a resulting lack of educational opportunities. This work explores the hypothesis that, for young students from this social circle – who enjoy vast inherited wealth – educational merit and talent do not play a key role in their conception of life or professional development. To support this hypothesis, this study explores the value placed on schooling both by parents and the directors of elite private schools.

This paper seeks to identify relevant methodological and contextual aspects of scientific initiation projects in the virtual programs in journalism and communication offered by the Politécnico Grancolombiano. The methodology employed a systematic review of the formative research projects in the institution’s repository. By applying inclusion and exclusion criteria, an analysis matrix was constructed from all the documents deposited in the repository over a set period of time. The results show that 52% of high-quality research projects feature students from different regions of Colombia, highlighting the existence of collaborative work in virtual environments. The communicative products exhibit a clear relationship with students’ formative communication skills. The study conclusion proposes an ongoing analysis with tutors from different levels (as a pedagogical strategy) to consolidate projects in both programs at a disciplinary level.

The main objective of this descriptive, cross-sectional study, conducted with a sample of 597 university students from Spain, is to describe students’ levels of resilience and analyze how they relate to gender and religious tendency. The main instrument used was the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). The results show that male students exhibit higher scores in optimism and adapting to stressful situations, whereas females are more spiritual. It was also noted that Christians and atheists/agnostics obtained higher scores, on average, in defying action-oriented behavior, whereas Muslims scored more highly in spirituality.

New generations require a more dynamic learning process, that’s why high education institutions have begun to articulate new pedagogical tools in the different areas of knowledge. The objective of this article is to design and educational game to support the learning process of the areas related to marketing inside the micro-curriculum of a Colombian University. To accomplish this aim, a literature review was carried out and a pilot test was applied to pre-grade students. The results show that this type of games require of a mode interactive design in terms of complexity and competitiveness. Finally shows that this type of games improved knowledge in the simple tested.
