This work addresses the visibility of feminist demands for justice on Twitter through a selection of 927 tweets generated in Latin American countries, collected and processed using digital techniques. The findings show that of 96 cases, most are unsolved femicides and few achieve high visibility, characterized by immediacy, popularity, and multimedia content. The conclusion is that there are possibilities for positioning the unsatisfied demands for justice but difficulties in gaining visibility, which reduces the strength of the pressure of digital actions on institutions.

The purpose of this study is to analyze how the video game industry has reinvented the way entertainment content is consumed during the lockdown; specifically, we will study the case of Fortnite. The methodological approach is qualitative, supported by content analysis and discourse analysis of Spanish digital media articles and news. The results reveal three elements that favour innovation in the video game industry: the development of novel content, in-game events, and added value in the players' experience.

This article examines the way coercive memes—whether those against feminism or sexual dissidence—that circulate through social media opposing “gender ideology” in Mexico, constitute practices of symbolic domination that perpetuate forms of oppression. Following the semiological perspective of Roland Barthes, coercive memes are analyzed as mythologies, which makes it possible to focus on three of their ideological functions: distorting meaning, naturalizing, and depoliticizing. The methodological strategy is based on the analytical centrality of returning to the ethnographic archive.

The objective of this article is to analyze journalists’ overt and covert resistances. Drawing on the typology of resistance of Hollander and Einwohner, as well as fieldwork in one Mexican journalism’s capitals, Tijuana, four types of resistance are examined: 1) to relations of deference, 2) to information blocking, 3) to workloads, and 4) to editorial censorship. These strategies are intermingled and allow what organizational structures often prevent: a socially relevant investigative journalism.

The current migratory movement from Venezuela to Colombia is at the heart of a heated debate. This paper aims to focus the attention on the Colombian context, starting from the transition process generated after the internal armed conflict. After that, border dynamics and migration policies will be examined, highlighting how the centrality of the subject order / disorder, social harmony / disharmony has also oriented the construction of the figure of the Venezuelan migrant both politically and in the media, with consequences on the reception and inclusion.

This text emphasizes the relevance of re-education toward peaceful conflict transformation. The objective is to reach greater humanization in which values, as cooperation, empathy, integrative power, and active listening are preeminent. In this sense, after the methodology of peaceful conflict transformation is analyzed, the importance of appealing to dialogic pedagogies such as the libertarian one designed by Freire is deduced. At the same time, the necessity to promote a creative ethos to deal with crisis and stress situations in an alternative way to violence is inferred too. A creative ethos that promotes the critical and ethical thinking in the positive regulation of conflicts and, in this way, in the construction of peace.

The article aims to analyze the institutional mechanisms that have operated in a stigmatized and impoverished territory, and the responses of community action by organizations and social groups. Through qualitative methodology, based on the interviews with 17 social leaders and activists from Alto Hospicio, institutional actions and omissions that have generated precariousness are described, but also a social capillarity of self-management. The results indicate that the social production of the territory involves public action, market dynamics and the collective agency of the inhabitants. The latter, subjected to the urgencies of subsistence, as well as to dissatisfaction with state actions, unfolds in community self-management, without yet achieving an articulation that challenges the state institutional framework in an organized way, but emerging components of identity and social revaluation that open up possibilities for both development and resistance.

Literature on pre-electoral coalitions underlines political hegemony, erosion and electoral cycles as determinants for the creation of anti-hegemonic coalitions. However, in governor elections, the previous conditions appear without the expected results. What is impeding them? It is argued that the lack of local concurrence, few simultaneous elections and electoral nationalization inhibit the formation of this type of coalitions. In order to test the argument, we selected the State of Mexico as an example of a negative case and compared it transversally and longitudinally resorting to a case study approach. This paper aims to reveal the conditions that systematically inhibit the formation of anti-hegemonic pre-electoral coalitions. Findings include predominance of officialist coalitions, absence of positions for anti-hegemonic negotiation and greater dependence on national resources. It is concluded that the electoral cycle and the state’s political dimension increase the nationalization of the election.

In a context marked by the Covid-19 pandemic, this research focuses on the study of the informative treatment of tourism in Spain and Mexico; countries whose economies are nourished, at a high proportion, by the entertainment industry. For this purpose, a content analysis was conducted based on the observation of three digital media in Spain (El Mundo, El País and La Vanguardia) and another three in Mexico (El Universal, Milenio and Expansión). A sample of 524 news items related to tourism was collected from March 2020 to March 2022. The purpose of this work was to find out, longitudinally, how tourist information has been approached during the health crisis from the perspective of framing. The results indicate that negative economic issues and attribution of responsibility have marked the informative treatment of the press in tourism coverage.
