The aim of this work is to relate the present bias (PB) with financial sources choice and productive variables of a group of milk producers in Hermosillo, Sonora. A sample of 53 milk producers (8 women and 45 men) with an age range of 29 to 73 years was intentionally selected. Through a socio-economic, productive and financial questionnaire and a choice test, it was found that: (a) the 51% of the producers choose informal sources, of which 72% presented PB; (b) a total milk production of 7,128 liters per day was registered, where 59% of the volume produced corresponded to PB producers; and (c) statistically significant differences were found between the PB and the type of financial source, but not between PB and production. The results in the present investigation not only reflect the high prevalence of PB in the producers, but also have inconsistency in their preferences, which may affect the development of the production unit.

In this paper, experimental stress-strain curves of tensional and compressional tests carried out in Mexico for two bamboo species (Guadua Angustifolia Kunth and Bambusa Oldhamii) as wells as a comparison with those obtained in Ecuador and Colombia, are evaluated. For the Guadua Angustifolia Kunth, similar curve shapes for Mexican, Colombian and Ecuadorean bamboos were observed. This, in despite of variations in the test conditions, physic and geometric specimen properties, and original specimen position in the bamboo culm. Next, through a least square analysis, characteristic equations for these stress-strain curves were obtained. Bambusa Oldhamii species always shown the higher tensional and compressional strengths, 56.1 MPa and 273.3 MPa. Stress-strain curves for theses bamboo species were compared with that of unreinforced concrete. By considering the high strength and ductility capacity, the bamboo has a better behavior under axial stress than the unreinforced concrete and could be used for the building construction.

In base to a journalistic research on dailies from Chiapas, epigrams and different kind of verses are commented in order to demonstrate how the social and political events of the Maderista revolution (1910-1911) influenced the field of literary creation. As long as it identifies authors, the journals where these ones were published and their political networking, this article contributes to the study of the relationship between literature and politics during the first half of the twentieth century.

After reading the Letter to the Editor of Barboza-Meca "Are scientific publications important in medical students?", Published in this journal, it is necessary to issue some considerations in this regard. Draws attention to how the author raises the need for standards for the selection of researchers, thus questioning the relevance of including undergraduate students in the process of scientific publication. At the same time, it casts doubt on the role of student research in the solution of the problems that afflict society and individual health.

Introduction: High failure and dropout rates, low academic achievement and terminal efficiency are amongst the main problems regarding bachelor-level students. Qualitatively, these problems manifest as a sense of unease, lack of self-confidence and frustration. Academic support is a pedagogic tool that enables a student to increase the durability of knowledge as well as a greater comprehension of academic content, it aids in the acquisition of skills, attitudes and values, develops self regulation and promotes lifelong learning abilities. Objective: Compare the academic performance in a remedial exam corresponding to the 2010-2011 school year of students who received mentoring prior to the exam to those who decided to refuse this aid.Method: Academic performance was evaluated through an exam administered by the Department to 86 registered students, of these, 40 participated in mentoring sessions. The grades were processed through the SPSS 15.0 program. Results: The 52.3% of the students passed the exam: 65% of the students who participated in mentoring sessions passed the exam; in comparison to 41.7% of the ones that refused mentoring. Through an ANOVA factor analysis (F=7.782: gl=1.86; p<0.01) it was found that the difference in academic performance is statistically significant. Discussion: An analysis of the distribution of the students´ grades shows that those who were mentored not only passed the exam, but also achieved better grades, thus increasing the quality of their performance. Even those students, who didn´t pass the exam but were mentored, achieved a greater number of correct answers. Finally, we can conclude that mentoring helped students pass the exam and improve the quality of their academic performance.

Introduction: The importance of clinical simulation is increasing on medical education. Medical schools are considering diverse methods to train students’ trough clinical simulation as part of their improvement process. This strategy may develop critical thinking on three phases: diagnosis, intervention and reflection. Is important to inquire if clinical simulation contribute on students to think, to reason, to deliberate and make judgments as established by its objectives and purposes for learning. Objective: The main objective of this study was to assess the development of critical thinking from clinical simulation in each of its stages (diagnosis, intervention and reflection) on medical students from a private medical school.Method: Descriptive qualitative. It was designed and applied a rubric on 4 teams of 5 students to assess the critical thinking on the following clinical simulation phases: diagnosis, intervention and reflection, using high-fidelity simulation. Through observation there were considered three levels: low, medium and high to assess the competence for each team. Results: Considering the highest level of critical thinking, results showed that 2 of 4 teams were capable to diagnose and balance benefits and risks for tests and treatments. One from four teams were able to recognize treatment options from relevant information and three from four were capable to describe objectively and subjectively the experience of simulation. Reflection phase was the highest scored con critical thinking competence. Conclusions: Simulated activities contribute on students the opportunity to analyze, reflect and assess professional situations on a fictitious clinical environment, considering interactive learning with immediate feed-back, imitating their future professional task.

In the article "A MOOC, many MOOCs: multilevel design in mass courses in the health area" some recommendations for the design of a MOOC are mentioned, such as meaningful contents, student involvement, measurability of what has been learned, accessibility and scalability. It seems pertinent to comment on the case of the platform OPENPediatrics (https://www.openpediatrics.org), which offers courses aimed at health professionals who provide care to pediatric patients. Among the resources used to achieve student involvement are virtual simulation and serious play.Within the platform is a virtual simulator of peritoneal dialysis in which different cases are presented with common situations within clinical practice such as acute renal failure, chronic renal failure, electrolyte and electrolyte disorders and peritonitis in which the student must make a diagnosis. indicate peritoneal dialysis. At the end of the case the student is evaluated and obtains a gold, silver or bronze medal according to performance. Wang and colleagues define serious games as those games developed with a purpose other than entertainment, such as the teaching of some knowledge or skill and that must also include challenging tasks, performance score and attractive design. The virtual simulation and the serious game are able to improve specific knowledge or skills for the performance of some procedure due to a greater involvement of the student, however despite the enthusiasm that exists around these new technological resources the development of these is complex and costly, it also requires a multidisciplinary team with experience in medicine, education and information technology.
