Resumen
One of the most productive uses of ephemeral events like the Olympics, Expos and FIFA World Cup is to use them to produce a better city. These events often require considerable changes in land use and investments in infrastructure that need to serve not only the event but also future needs as well. One valuable urban application is to reuse polluted or aging industrial land and turn it into a city asset. Brownfield development as part of mega events can lead to reclamation of beaches and waterfronts, and the use of industrial land for commercial and residential use. Examples drawn from recent mega events illustrate how careful planning can leave an event legacy of improved land use and quality of life.

The capacity to cope with test anxiety that contain high concentrations of cognitive, behavioral, and physiological manifestations, is becoming increasingly important in educational contexts as well as evaluative settings. The developing ability to deal with test anxiety relative to the increasingly strict evaluative practices students encounter points that students’ test anxiety may decline as they move through school years. This study examined three test anxiety components (thoughts, off-task behaviors, and autonomic reactions) with students from 3 public schools in İstanbul, Turkey. Using a diverse sample of elementary (Grade 4; N = 414) and middle (Grade 6; N = 201) school students, grade level differences in these components were investigated. Applying a multivariate approach, significant differences were found in the overall test anxiety, favoring fourth grade students. The results also revealed Grade 4 advantage for off-task behaviors and autonomic reactions, = .014 and = .011, but no grade level differences in the thoughts. Educational implications of the findings are discussed.

Entre la prensa neoyorquina del siglo XIX hubo también una serie de periódicos publicados en español que nacieron con el propósito de defender los intereses españoles en la gran ciudad. Se ponían frente al independentismo cubano, que también disponía de sus propios medios de expresión, o aglutinaban los deseos de los comerciantes españoles más acomodados. Junto a ellos, otras publicaciones trataron de cohesionar a diversos grupos como los anarquistas o se dedicaron a difundir los ideales de republicanos o librepensadores. También hubo revistas ilustradas y literarias que hicieron de la prensa española en Nueva York un fenómeno muy activo a lo largo del ochocientos que se presenta en estas páginas.

Este artículo propone un estudio de la fotografía de moda como cruce entre el elemento comercial y el arte, y dónde la influencia de la corriente surrealista se presenta continua. El análisis de algunos fotógrafos de moda que se inspiran en el surrealismo, y una interpretación de éste a nivel fotográfico nos lleva -siguiendo una estructura deductiva- a demostrar la idea del encuentro entre lo mercantil y el arte surrealista. Ejemplos tempranos de fotógrafos de moda que apuestan por el surrealismo los encontramos en el polifacético Man Ray, introductor de la experimentación en la fotografía de moda, en los años 40 en Erwin Blumenfeld, y ya en los años 70 destacó el francés Guy Bourdin

Political parties and their candidates use social networks as a new tool for political communication and so the media have also begun to use them in the same context. This article focuses on the analysis of the posts made by the news media on Twitter (tweets) during the week following Mexico’s 2018 elections, based on the informative, secondary and protagonist roles proposed by Vallés (2007), and on the reactions these posts generated on citizens. Content analysis has been performed on a sample of 525 tweets posted by 18 Mexican and international news media organizations. The results show that the three roles that traditional media publications play, according to Vallés (2007), can be extrapolated to the posts they make on Twitter, and that there are differences in the performance of these functions across news media outlets. The main innovation in the use of Twitter by news media is associated to citizens’ feedback (retweets and mentions), which has allowed us to determine that the “protagonist” role is the most commonly played within the political context under study.

This paper analyses the pre-professional journalistic culture of Ecuador, Cuba and Venezuela based on the degree of permissiveness held by Journalism students in regard to controversial ethical practices and their views of the media and the journalistic profession. We surveyed a probabilistic sample of 1,273 students from 21 universities enrolled on their first course (Ecuador=500, Venezuela=390, Cuba=383) in 2016. The results show that future journalists are reluctant to accept questionable journalistic practices, and hold a pessimistic view as to the quality and confidence of the media and the profession. We found that the degree of permissiveness is related to the perceived risk-reward analysis in terms of the quality of journalism in Cuba and Ecuador, and that the student perceptions of ethics differ in Venezuela and Ecuador. We conclude that, despite their political similarities in terms of having left-wing Governments, perceptions in the three countries diverge.
