Resumen
Starting in 2014, Lake Enriquillo, located in the southwest of the Dominican Republic, began to show a continuous increase in the level of its waters, which lasted until 2013 when a gradual decrease started up to date. The change in water surface went from 265 km2 to approximately 375 km2. During all this time, investigations have been carried out to determine the cause, or causes, that gave rise to this phenomenon. Although several hypotheses have been raised about this phenomenon, there is still no widespread consensus on the causes of the rise in the lake’s water. What is raised in this research is that, except for the contribution of surface water through extreme events, the largest amount of water that drains into Lake Enriquillo is through the subsoil, since most of the rivers and canals around the lake have been dry for the past two years. Much of the water flowing from the Neyba and Bahoruco mountain ranges, from the North and South respectively, is used for irrigation and livestock, on a smaller scale. Lake Enriquillo does not receive surface water from the west, and as far as the east, it only continuously drains water from Cristobal canal, which has a flow that largely depends on the handling of a dam and the use for agriculture.

Resumen
As part of a conservation strategy for the Wildlife Refuge “Isla de Aves”, which represents a geostrategic zone for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, several research institutions conduct studies every year to learn about the island’s biodiversity. One of the most important biological components is phytoplankton, since although it sustains marine pelagic trophic networks and is an essential part of the nutrient cycles; it has not been studied in this area, so an inventory of marine phytoplankton was accomplished. Here, we carried out several trawls with a conical phytoplankton net in July 2011 and July 2012. In the laboratory, abundance was estimated by the Utermolh method, with an inverted microscope and specialized bibliography. The community was represented by 191 species distributed in 121 diatoms, 58 dinoflagellates, 6 cyanobacteria, 3 eugleophytes and 3 silicoflagellates. The coastal marine zone of the island is characterized by a diverse phytoplankton community, with characteristic abundances of oligotrophic waters of coral ecosystems and processes of mixing the water column.

Resumen
Many Secondary and higher Education text books explain ATP is the “energy currency” of the cell, entrusting a special character to the characteristic phosphoanhydride bonds of this biomolecule. Even the so-called Lipmann notation is often used to symbolize the supposedly exceptional character of these “rich energy bonds”. However, the high standard free energy of ATP hydrolysis (ΔG°’= -30.5kJ / mol) is not due to any special bond but to several electronic and steric factors, which increase the instability of the molecule and the capacity of cells to keep relationship [ADP] / [ATP] ten orders of magnitude away from equilibrium position.

Resumen
Sematophyllaceae is one of the families with the most species in the Caribbean. The genus Sematophyllum presents five species in the Dominican Republic however; few studies about its geographical distribution in the island exist to this day. Using online data and bibliographical revisions one can seek to determine the genus distribution in Dominican territory. Herbarium records illustrate that Sematophyllum is represented by six species; S. adnatum, S. subpinnatum, S. subsimplex, S. galipense, S. swartizii and S. tequendamense, the latter is a new report for the Central Mountain Range.

Resumen
Cytospora rhizophorae is a pathogenic fungus and causes regressive death of the mangrove. The fruiting bodies are orange-yellow in color and require a wound to infect the host. This species is adapted to high temperatures and high concentrations of salinity. The species is reported for the first time for the Dominican Republic on the Rhizophora mangle and the nanoornamentacion of cirrus is documented for the first time.

Resumen
Illicium is a genus of the family Schisandraceae (Basal Angiosperms) native to Southeast Asia in the Old World, and the West Indies, Mexico’s Caribbean Coast, and Southeastern United States in the New World. Ballistic dispersion and its presence in cloud forests and temperate regions in the western hemisphere suggest that its disjunct distribution is a product of vicariance processes rather that long distance dispersion. A review of the biology, ecology, and biogeography of the genus in the New World.

Pedro Téllez Girón, III count of Ureña, and his wife, doña Mencía de Guzman, daughter of the III duke of Medina-Sidonia, founded a chaplaincy in the convent of San Pablo of Seville to establish there their graves in the main altar and agreed for the endowment, the altarpiece, bars, stained glass and the phylactery. I make known announce the conditions of the two projects for the main altarpiece and the bars of this chapel by the lawsuit that kept the Constable of Castile and the convent dominicans of San Pablo.
