Resumen
A study on the length distribution, monthly growth increments and mortality was conducted in the freshwater clam Glabaris luteolus at 28 Millas, in the Atlantic region of Costa Rica. The results are compared with those obtained in a similar study in a dry Pacific region at Cañas, Guanacaste, both areas being highly different with regard to environmental temperature and precipitation.

Resumen
A relative-length-frequency study, in the Gulf of Nicoya, Costa Rica from May 1980 to April 1981, showed that in Anchoa panamensis there are two age groups per year, with maximum spawning peaks during the rainy season, May and October. The asymptotic total llength (L=) and weight (W=) were 160.1 mm and 27.1 g, respectively. The total mortality rate was calculated as 5.240 and we conclude that the population is being underexploited.

Resumen
Fishes from five transects in Manuel Antonio National Park (pacific) and seven transects in Cahuita National Park (Caribbean), Costa Rica were censused using a rapid visual technique from February to April 1982. Cahuita, with 49 species, had a higher overall species diversity, whereas more individuals were usually seen on the Manuel Antonio transects, where 39 species were counted. Transects with similar habitat complexity showed highest PS values (approximately 60%). Wrasses (Labridae) and damselfish (Pomacentridae) dominated in both the Pacific rock reef and the Caribbean coral reef study areas. Individuals up to 7.5 cm usually dominated on transects, but an increase in size was observed as the habitat complexity increased. Diversity was low at Cahuita in relation to other Caribbean reef areas, probably due to the declining state of the coral reef. The species diversity values at Manuel Antonio are within the range of values found in Central American Pacific estuarine and tidepool studies.

Resumen
A checklist of the Panamanian species of scorpions and keys for their identification are presented. 14 species belonging to 8 genera and 5 families were identified. Some taxonomic considerations are given and figures pertaining to Tityus championi and T. pachyurus are included. This last species is redescribed.

Resumen
Several persons from two localities in Costa Rica (San Rafael de Coronado, 1510 m and Dulce Nombre de Tres Ríos, 1445 m) were bitten by ticks, subsequently identified as Ornitohodoros (A.) Kelleyi (Argasidae), commonly associated with bats. In the attics of their homes, live adults, larvae, nymphs and skins were found in the hat guano. Since there are no records of adult argasids in this country, a laboratory colony was established to observe the biology of these ticks and their association with bats. In this particular case, the bats were Molossidae and Vespertilionidae, both insectivorous.Adults and last nymphal ticks easily fed on sucking white mice in the dark; feeding lasts from 20 to 40 minutes, when abundant coxal fluid is produced; oviposition occurs from 14 to 27 days later.Comparison of the most common structures of both whole larvae and larval skins revealed no significant differences, taxonomically important, since according to the habits of the Argasidae, it is easier to find larval molts than live specimens.

Resumen
Regulation of intensity of parasitism in spider-egg parasitoids is more complex than in mast parasites, since spider eggs are tightly packed in sacs and factors controlling proportion of eggs parasitized per sac also regulate population densities. Both microhymenopterans Baeus achaearaneus (Scelionidae) and Tetrastichus sp. (Eulophidae), are egg parasitoids of the spider Achaearanea tepidariorum in Costa Rica. B. achaearaneus tends to locate a large number of sacs and to parasitize only a small proportion of eggs in each; Tetrastichus sp. locates a small proportion of the sacs available (typical of all parasites studied heretofore), but maximizes the utilization of eggs in each sac. The latter is intrinsically superior whenever both species attack the same sac (multiple parasitism).

Resumen
The present report is a systematic study of children, with and without diarrhea from Costa Rican metropolitan areas and southern rural higlands. Children were observed, respectively, at emergencies, Hospital Nacional de Niños, and in a field station in Puriscal; urban children were studied vertically, rural children were observed prospectively (cohort study). Cryptosporidium sp. was found in 4.3% of the cases of diarrhea; diahrrea was generally severe in urban children, but mild in the rural. Infection was detected in urban children less than one year of age: contrasting, no rural infants were found infected, which might be related to breast-feeding, since Puriscal infants were intensively breast-fed for several months, while many urban infants were not breast-fed or were weaned earlier. Cryptosporidium sp. appeared during the warm, rainy and humid months of May through August, when the coccidium was associated with 14.8% of the urban and 15.4% of the rural diarrheas. AH urban cases presented dehydration which was corrected with oral rehydration salt therapy, and occasionally with intravenous fluids; dehydration was not common in the rural cases.

Resumen
This article analyses popular music addressed to young people in Chile in the sixties. In a decade characterized by changes and demands for social transformation, young people are important social actors who are incorporated as market consumers by cultural industries. From a critical perspective on interpretations about musical appropriation in Chile, and following a quantitative approach, we study the rankings of the most popular songs listened by youth between 1961 and 1970 on Chilean radios. Results show how popular music for youth reflects the condition of a dependent society, open to international influences, but also how young people of the time sieves the reception of new styles according to musical tastes and traditions, fully constituted as hybrid. This study argues that the musical preferences by youth in the second middle of twenty century are a complex hybridization of musical genres, which have constructed identities that interlaces modern and traditional elements.

Resumen
This article consists of two sections. In the first part we review the musical trajectory of Vicente Bianchi Alarcon, in his varied dimensions as a pianist, arranger, orchestral conductor and composer. Most of the information contained was obtained from conversations with Vicente Bianchi, especially from an interview made in 2002. The second part contains a list of data and considerations regarding the obtaining of the National Prize for Musical Arts 2016.

Resumen
A first approach to religious musical output of Chilean composer Vicente Bianchi Alarcon (b. 1920), National Prize of Musical Arts 2016 in Chile, is exposed in this paper. A background to understand this output is presented as two great items can be distinguished: Christmas music and liturgical music. Then works from each of these items are presented and later an approach to meaningful stylistic features that can be observed in this corpus. Finally some prospects from musical, theological and socioaesthetic viewpoints are proposed about this output.
