Objective: To determine the impact of Minimal Intervention Techniques (MIT) on the body mass index (BMI) of preschool children with early childhood caries (CIT). Material and Methods: Intervention, relational and longitudinal study. A random sample of 31 was obtained from a population of 100 pre-school children of both sexes and ages 3 to 5 who met the inclusion criteria. Anthropometric measurements were recorded: height- weight and BMI at the beginning, 6 and 12 months. The soft tissue oral examination revealed color changes and gingivitis; in hard tissues alterations of structure, chronology, sequence of eruption and the ceo-d index was applied; clinical evaluations were at baseline and at 12 months. Preventive MITs were applied: fluoride in varnish, microinvasive: ionomeric sealants and minimally invasive: Atraumatic Restoration Technique (ART). Results: The global and individual variations of the BMI at the beginning and 12 months after applying the IMR were highly significant (p <0.001). In finally evaluation, the clinical findings show positive and significant changes in mucosal color and degrees of gingivitis. 98% of preschool children presented CIT and ceo-d index on average 6.5% at the beginning and 1.7% after treatment, hypomineralization 45.2%, eruption delay 25.8%, alteration in the sequence and eruption chronology 29%. Conclusions: The progressive global and individual increase of the BMI is directly related to the application of the IMR; effective to regain oral health in preschool children with CIT over time.

Background: There are studies evaluating cephalometric parameters in Class II division 2 patients. There are no similar investigations in Peru. Objective: To evaluate post-treatment changes in incisor inclination and position and their relationship with the nasolabial angle (ANL) and point A (PA) in Class II division 2 patients, with and without extractions in cases of the Orthodontic specialty program of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia. Material and methods: manual tracing and measurements of 62 lateral cephalometric radiographs (31 pre and 31 post-treatment) were performed, of patients with Malocclusion Class II division 2. Statistical analysis was performed with SPSS 21.0 for Windows. Results: There was proinclination and incisive protrusion in all patients. In patients with extractions, the ANL presented non-significant changes, but significant correlations: when the lower incisor inclination increased, the ANL decreased; when ANL increased, the interincisal angle (AII) increased. Point A (PA) experienced changes and correlations, but not significant. In patients without extractions, no correlations or significant changes were found in BP or ANL. Women treated without extraction did not show significant changes, in men the most significant changes were lower incisor inclination and protrusion. In the cases with extractions in men it was AII; and in women the AII and the upper incisor angle / palatal plane. Conclusions: There is a relationship between the changes that occur in the incisors and the ANL and PA, although most are not statistically significant.

Squamous cell carcinoma arises from the epithelium of the oral mucosa, common in the fifth and sixth decades of life and is typically associated with risk factors such as smoking and alcohol consumption. Worldwide, the incidence of oral cancer is higher among men than women. The increase in the incidence of cancer in Mexico requires proper management and the use of vascularized flaps to repair defects generated by a hemimandibulectomy with safety margins. Despite the advent of vascularized free tissue grafts, the myocutaneous pectoralis major flap remains a pedunculated flap widely used for the reconstruction of soft tissue defects in the oral and maxillofacial region. The surgical protocol carried out at the ISSSTE “General Ignacio Zaragoza” Regional Hospital for the treatment of mandibular squamous cell carcinoma is shown.

Objective: To evaluate the frequency and distribution of adverse events that occur in the development of dental treatments performed by clinical operators of a Teaching Dental Clinic during 2015. Material and Methods: An observational and descriptive longitudinal and prospective study was carried out to evaluate the frequency of adverse events in the dental practice of Dentistry students, for which a System for the Registration and Notification of Adverse Events in Dentistry was implemented aimed at 110 clinical operators in the areas of Restorative Dentistry, Oral Surgery, Endodontics and Oral Rehabilitation during 2015. Results: 167 adverse events were reported, representing 10.18% of the total treatments performed during the monitoring and evaluation period. Common, depending on the clinical field, were “Post-restorative treatment hypersensitivity” (restorative dentistry), “Over-filling or under-filling with symptoms” (endodontics), “Post-extraction dental alveolitis” (oral surgery) and “Post-carving sensitivity for fixed prostheses (pillars)” (oral rehabilitation). Conclusions: The implementation of a registration and notification system is the starting point for the identification of the most frequent adverse events in dental practice, which is useful for defining procedures to be followed, developing protocols, and formulating guidelines for healthcare quality and safety.

Traditionally, calcium hydroxide (HC) was considered the material of choice for direct pulp capping (RPD); but this has changed over the years due to the various disadvantages it presents. Calcium silicate-based cements (CSC) have properties that are advantageous to HC such as: bioactivity, biocompatibility, shorter setting time, sealing capacity and resistance, which they are used in a variety of endodontic procedures, including RPD.This review article compiles information from the manual search of original scientific research articles and literature reviews of the Medline / PubMed database. The varieties of CSC, their mechanism of action, disadvantages, related factors and rates of clinical success in their application in cases of RPD are described.

Background: Bulk-fill composite  resins  (BF)  are  used  in  posterior  restorations  with  extensive  and  deep preparations. One of the most outstanding benefits is that it can be used in increments of 4 to 5 mm, reducing clinical working time. However, in teeth with root canal treatment, these preparations could be deeper. Objectives: To determine the photoactivation time necessary to polymerize a Bulk-Fill resin located in deep areas. Material and Methods: In the present experimental in vitro study, specimens of Filtek One Bulk Fill composite resin (3M ESPE, St. Paul, USA) of 5x5x5 mm color A2 photoactivated at a distance/time of 0 mm/10 s, 0 mm/20 s, 3 mm/10 s, 3 mm/20 s, 3 mm/30 s and 3 mm/40 s (n=5) were fabricated. Surface microhardness was recorded on the surface and at the base of each specimen. Results: The highest microhardness value was recorded in group BF 0 mm/20 s and BF 3 mm/40 s (p<0.05), followed by groups BF 3 mm/20 s and BF 3 mm/30 s (p>0.05). The lowest microhardness values were found in the BF 0 mm/10 s and BF 3 mm/10 s groups. Conclusion: It takes 40 s of photoactivation to polymerize a Bulk-Fill resin located in deep areas, when the lamp is 3 mm away from the resin surface.

The restoration of large class II MOD cavity preparations is a highly complex clinical scenario. Selecting correctly a composite resin and planning the stratification sequence will improve the adaptation of the composite resin masses and will control the polymerization shrinkage stress. In the following clinical case report, the step- by-step protocol of the combined use of an high-refractive-index enamel-like composite resin is shown for the restoration of lost marginal ridges and the occlusal surface, together with a low viscosity Bulk-Fill composite resin for dentine reconstruction in a highly damaged posterior tooth.
