This investigation is result of a previous theoretical work presented in this magazine in 2009, the Music in the Advertising Communication. Now, the study of contents presents the result of a pioneering research of 2.346 television spots of different national Spanish channels in prime-time schedule. In Spain, 9 of 10 television spots include some kind of musical component in their final format, similar results to research done in different countries and different periods. However there are significant differences in the musical shape used to communicate the product, as well as in the styles and musical genders on which those musical shapes are based on and its relation with the kind of product or announcer.

Relatively recent academic research on television has led to the assumption –when faced with its own challenges– of the established theories in the study of arts and former media. This article addresses the complexity of adapting a traditional and inherited theory of genre to the features of a different media, with particular dynamics of distribution and consumption by the viewer.

This article examines the state of the art in relation to government communication. After identifying the specific characteristics of government as an institution that communicates, the authors provide a thorough review of the literature from political communication and organizational communication (including public relations, organizational and corporate communication) in terms of what it can contribute to the study of government communication. The review examines concepts, theories and approaches that can illuminate the study of government communication, permitting the authors to suggest a series of baseline issues that can provide a research agenda for the field. These issues include the establishment of model(s) for government communication, the 'problem of professionalization,' the tension between government information and persuasion, the evaluation and efficiency of government communication, elements for the analysis of a government communication office, international comparative study and the development of theoretical grounding for research in this field.

The structure of the Spanish online media market has experienced a deep transformation throughout 2007-2009. One of the key factors of change to be highlighted is the rise of ‘native digital’ media, which are trying to reach their share in a market still dominated by the online editions of traditional media. This article analyses these several of the initiatives at a national and regional level, such as Soitu. Among then, the case of Soitu stands out for its innovative approach, despite the fact that it closed down after a two year period. It is argued that Soitu´s example could be regarded as a point of departure in the Spanish ‘native digital’ media.

This paper tackles the transit from the analysis of the American Insomnia to the study of the Worldwide Insomnia in the first period of Jim Jarmusch´s films. The American Insomnia must be understood as a criticism of the American Dream and the American Way of Life, especially as it was represented in the hegemonic cinema during the 80´s. Jarmusch carries out that criticism in the formal and subject matter levels. The object of this paper is to show how the American Insomnia becomes a Worldwide Insomnia progressively, reaching its top with Night on Earth (1991) and coinciding with the end of the Reagan in-office period.

The comprehension of the news is an issue for journalism. This paper tries to make an effort in that sense, trying to probe that the viability of the concept “foco editorial” as a strategy that leads the elaboration of the television news, as a way to avoid multiple meanings of the informative message and contribute to comprehension of the receptor. The concept is the main idea that gives a specific intention to the visual narration process. The objective of this investigation is to probe that news elaborated following the elements that compose the concept “foco editorial” are associated to a better understanding of the viewer.

The aim of this article is to analyse which role fiction plays in columns, specifically the practice known as self-fiction in the literary research field. It consists of the creation of a fictitious personality with the same name and surnames as the author’s. On the other hand, I will study why columns and short fiction can be swapped. This research will be based on the columns that the writer Empar Moliner publishes in the newspaper Avui. That will allow me to check the experimental nature of this genre and the persuasive value of fiction when used with an argumentative purpose.

This paper focuses on the ways that a consciousness of identity arises through the double nature of text and image in El Tesoro de la sombra (1999) and two micro-stories of Jodorowsky and Boucq: ‘El laberinto inundado’ and ‘Narciso y la bestia’. Both stories present a character who is undone as soon as he becomes fully aware of his own identity. Similarly, the analysis of A. Tarkovski's film The mirror explains how visual arts and literature become related, since concept of the human glance also plays a dominant role. The punctum concept stated by R. Barthes in La chamber Claire (1980) guides our theoretical proposals in conjunction with the ‘fascinated glance’ treated by P. Quignard in his Le sexe e l’effroi (2005).

Certain short stories of Emilia Pardo Bazán (Spain, 1851-1921) and Julio Cortázar (Argentina, 1914-1984) evolve within a framework of texts, objects, and paintings that extends space and time, eliciting the active participation of the reader. What first appears as a mirror-like reflection changes to refract, as would a prism, multiple dimensions and narrative identities; these underscore a mix of reality and illusion that contests a conventional reading.
