The research aimed to apply the tutoring sessions of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) method in the teaching of genetics in basic education in a rural public school in the municipality of Abaetetuba-PA. Characterized as qualitative and quantitative, it was developed in two stages, each with two cycles, presenting 14 problems (PBL's) with different levels of difficulty and depth. The results indicate that at the beginning of the first cycles the students had difficulties, especially in carrying out group activities and formulating the objectives for the problems. However, the methodology was well evaluated and accepted by the participants, the problems were adequately resolved, with contextualization and implementation of transversal themes, configuring the PBL method as an effective active methodology in the teaching of genetics.

Current knowledge about "Algae" needs to reach students in basic education. However, this knowledge construction process needs, firstly, to reach the undergraduates of Biology courses, who will be the future teachers and producers of didactic materials. In this article we aim to analyze the classification of "algae" and the teaching approaches about these beings, used in undergraduate courses in Biological Sciences at Brazilian Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). Although the "evolutionary" and "diversity" approaches were the most frequent, the classification of "algae" into artificial groups (specified or not) is still very present, leading to an understanding that the most recent studies on the phylogeny of these beings are not yet being explored in the analyzed HEIs.

The objective was to evaluate the sustainability of sheep production units in the municipality of Ixmiquilpan, Hidalgo State, Mexico. The indicators were described considering the local characteristics of the region, previous interviews, and survey information. To enable the integration of indicators of different nature, they were transformed to a scale from 0 to 12.5 (regardless of their original unit), where 12.5 was the highest sustainability value and 0 the lowest. In addition, the indicators were weighted using a coefficient, this factor depended on the relative importance of each indicator. The data were obtained through the survey applied to the producers, then they were systematized to later evaluate the degree of sustainability in the social, ecological and economic dimensions, obtaining values of 62, 70 and 47, respectively. In the livestock production units of this study, high sustainability values were obtained in the components of the ecological dimension since the production process minimizes ecological deterioration. The sheep production systems analyzed are economically sustainable, which is important for their contribution to the regional economy, have a social influence and coexist in a measured way with their natural environment.

The objective of the study was to analyze the importance that children (8-12 years old) assign to urban vegetation as a provider of three categories of ecosystem services, through its ecological, nutritional and human health role. The participating schools had the following characteristics: being urban, presence of green areas in different proportions, and willingness of authorities and teachers to participate in the study. A descriptive survey with six multiple-choice questions was applied. The results showed that the presence or absence of school green areas did not have a significant influence on environmental perceptions; however, there are other relevant factors such as direct contact with nature and learning about plants generated in a daily context not necessarily linked to the school. Additionally, the most widely recognized were the regulating services, understood as the importance of vegetation in regulating air quality and the hydrological cycle. The cultural services were related to the aesthetic value of plants and the provisioning services were associated with food and medicine. In addition, and contrary to what is theoretically established, boys perceived the ecosystem regulation services more easily compared to girls (chi-square test p<0.05).

The Metropolitan District of Quito generates solid urban waste with a significant organic composition, from food waste, which produces greenhouse gases and contributes to global warming and climate change. The purpose of this research was to quantify food waste in households in Quito, characterize the metabolism of urban solid waste management in the city, and estimate the contribution of this management to greenhouse gas emissions. The research is quantitative of an exploratory type. A survey was used to collect primary information, secondary information was obtained through literature review. The methodology of metabolic networks and the tool to calculate greenhouse gases were applied. The total amount of food waste was approximately 202 kg/week, on average 0.76 kg/week/household. According to the results of the urban solid waste management metabolic network, 543 967 tons were contributed to the landfill; and, 6273 tons for recycling. The estimated emission of gases was 934 088 t CO2-eq/year. The characterization of urban solid waste management identified the metabolic pattern of the system, flows that are returned to society through recycling, and useful outputs such as composting and biogas.

In the Sabana-Camagüey archipelago, to the north of Cuba, it has been proposed to increase tourist activity. However, the transport infrastructure of this region seems insufficient to support this change. Due to its geographical characteristics, this area is very vulnerable to the direct incidence of hurricanes, cold fronts, and other natural phenomena, which threaten connectivity and the good condition of the roads. The objective of this work was to develop a proposal that allows establishing a connection between the main tourist poles of that region. During the different stages of the investigation, the intense daily pendular flows of workers and the transport of loads, materials and construction equipment were analyzed. The incidence of natural phenomena, such as cyclones and cold fronts, on existing structures, both in the keys and connecting them, was also analyzed. As a result, three variants of a possible road infrastructure system were obtained that favor the link between the different tourist poles of the northern keys of Cuba, based on multimodal transport systems that can reduce the vulnerability of the area, improve connectivity, and favor the maintenance of the existing transport infrastructure.

The phylum Mollusca comprises one of the largest phyla in the animal kingdom, which includes the class Gastropoda, which represents 80% of live molluscs. This research aimed to carry out a field activity with undergraduate students in Biological Sciences that would allow the students involved to study the diversity of molluscs (Gastropods) on the northern coast of Pará (Vila dos Pescadores, Bragança-PA), contributing to the knowledge of the local malacofauna and regional. The methodology adopted took place in three stages: a) field class; b) fixation of the material and c) identification and storage in a zoological collection. A total of 36 specimens were obtained, distributed in 7 species and 5 families of gastropods. Given the results, it is considered that this study can serve as a guide for further research, enabling the expansion of knowledge about the bioecology of these animals.
