An overview is offered of the conceptions of linguistic policy that were debated in Argentina, specifically in the River Plate area, during the second half of the 19th century. Following the sinuous lines drawn by Juan Bautista Alberdi and Domingo Faustino Sarmiento for or against the hegemony of the Castilian normative variety, the article focuses on the contributions of José Hernández, mainly in his political articles in El Río de la Plata (Buenos Aires, 1869-70) and in some scenes of Martín Fierro that fictionalize linguistic conflict.

The journey of North American poet Louis Zukofsky in contemporary Argentine poetry is very brief but significant. In this article, I first examine Zukofsky's initial appearances. The first time his name is mentioned is in Martín Gambarotta’s “Ars Poetica”, as part of Arturo Carrera’s anthology Monstruos (2001). The second is in 2010, when Sergio Raimondi composed a Hypermedia Box for the Bazar Americano site based on a poem by William Carlos Williams, whose words are hyperlinks to essays and poems by Zukofsky, translated by Raimondi himself. Then, I turn to Tomás Fadel’s translation of section 12 of Zukofsky's book A, published in 2015. The article argues that these three instances of articulation of “object Z” in turn allow us to distinguish and define different modulations of objectivism.

The humble social origin and the difficult economic situation suffered by Silvio Astier, the protagonist of Roberto Arlt’s novel El juguete rabioso (1926), obstruct his access to culture and keep him on the margins of certain social practices and conventions. Among them is the young man's inability to satisfy the standards of masculinity imposed by the hetero-patriarchal society of the time, often linked to the agency granted by possessing purchasing power. Unable to symbolically constitute himself as a “man,” Astier stagnates in an adolescent limbo that brings him frustration and surrounds him with cynicism. To counteract this precarious status, the boy develops strong homosocial ties with other male characters in whom he seeks refuge. This article offers a rereading of Roberto Arlt’s El juguete rabioso based on compound articulating axes ignored in critical approaches to this work, especially dealing with the intersection between social class and gender issues.

Digital literature seeks to destabilize the figure of the author through collective creations, non-creative writing and automated textual productions, among other procedures. Beyond all the possibilities of co-authorship that technopoetics promote, this article analyzes, from a posthumanist perspective, a series of literary bots programmed by the collectives Broken English and Aceleraditxs as collaborations between humans and machines. Just as the concept of the Anthropocene weakens the distinction between the natural and the artificial, that is, between nature and culture, from a posthumanist perspective the world can be approached in terms of “networks” in which the human loses unity and privilege as an agent.

To think about relationship between the Common and the Singular in literary works is a complex activity. To study it, this article analyzes the 2017 novel Caja de fractales, by Puerto Rican writer Luis Othoniel Rosa, in order to identify the procedures that account for literature’s double common nature: at the same time, a collective use of a tradition, which belongs to everyone and no one, and the transindividual product resulting from the singular work of a "group individual". In Rosa's case, special attention will be paid to procedures linked to the problems of intellectual property and its transgression, in the context of what the writer calls an "anarchist aesthetic" and what the Mexican writer Cristina Rivera Garza calls "poetics of disappropriation".

Los miedos (1963) is a novel by Eduardo Blanco Amor (1897-1979), a bilingual writer in Galician and Spanish who lived for decades in Argentina, where he developed the first part of his literary career cultivating various genres. This article examines the process of creation and subsequent trajectory of the novel, with which Blanco Amor intended to position himself in the Spanish literary circles as a resident of Argentina, where he had settled in 1965, and whose diverse conditions had a great impact on an author separated from his native space. This article deals with the circumstances related to the audacious participation of Los miedos in the 1961 Nadal Prize, in which Blanco Amor was a finalist, to the eventful publication of the work by the Destino publishing house and, finally, to the serious problems that the volume suffered with Francoist censorship.

In 2008, the Argentine singer Juana Molina released the song “Los hongos de Marosa”, establishing a link with poet Marosa di Giorgio by taking up her topics and expressions. This article analyzes how the singer reworks the imaginative work of the poet from Salta starting from the notion of material imagination, and delves into the enunciative forms in which Molina's work of rewriting operates, by forming bodies open to other-than-human ontologies. To do this, we delve deeper into the singing of poetry (music) and poetry as ways that make it possible to diagram imaginations that enable a living and fragmentary materiality. We take up discussions around the material imagination in order to analyze the writing of Marosa di Giorgio in relation to the ideas of new materialisms, particularly on the basis of the Gaia Thesis. Finally, we discuss theories around the voice and how Juana Molina receives the work of Marosa di Giorgio to continue imagining other forms of life.

The texts that constitute the corpus of feminine mystical writing maintain a fluid and constant conversation or exchange with the divine that each writer understands in her own way. Although there is no written record of the dialogue that the Costa Rican poet Eunice Odio had with God, it is possible to track and assemble the traces of those conversations through her correspondence with the Venezuelan editor Juan Liscano, where the experience of the supernatural and the divine runs through the personal and professional contents of the texts. Odio’s letters, which belong to a tradition that dates to the Beguine writers of the 13th century, insist that the language and aesthetics of Judeo-Christian mysticism have worked and still serve as strategies for some Latin American poets searching for new ways to discuss themselves, their bodies and their worlds.

In her works Fotos tuyas and Las fotos, the Argentine artist Inés Ulanovsky assigns significant importance to photography as both evidence and a symbol of absences. To achieve this, she focuses on objects that seem devoid of value or were reserved solely for the intimate realm. The author brings them into light and transforms them into custodians or witnesses of other moments. In this way, she manages to create a kind of root that results in the solidification and exhibition of stories that were intended to be erased. Thanks to these books, these stories remain alive and updated. Fotos tuyas and Las fotos reveal a certain ‘filiative’ and ‘affiliative’ function. Likewise, Ulanovsky's work with archives stands out. The mortar that holds these books together is the significance of memory and its implications for post-dictatorship Argentina.

In 1833, a gauchesco dialogue was published in Portuguese in the Porto Alegre newspaper O Recopilador Liberal. It is an extemporaneous appearance, since it oc curred at a date prior to what is considered to be the emerging moment of gauchesca literature in Rio Grande do Sul (the 1870s). Through the joint analysis of the piece by O Recopilador Liberal with a corpus of Rioplatense gauchescos dialogues (by Bartolomé Hidalgo and Hilario Ascasubi), the singularities of Brazilian composition are revealed in terms of the way of constructing the gauchesco locution device. Unlike what happens in the conversations composed on the Spanish side of the border, in the dialogue that ap peared in the Porto Alegre newspaper, the gaucho’s speech is subsidiary to the master’s speech, thus constructing a relationship of heteronomy that compromises the plebeian perspective that, in principle, the gauchesco genre establishes.
