Printing with movable types, invented around 1450, had spread across Europe by the beginning of the 16th century. During this and the following century it reached some colonial enclaves in the Americas and even in Asia. Nevertheless, the archipelagos of the Iberian Atlantic (the Canary Islands, Madeira, the Azores and Cape Verde) did not experience the benefits of this invention until 1750, and it was not until the 19th century was well advanced that these island territories had their own presses. This article describes the arrival of this industry in the Islands as well as offering further details. A comparison of the presses across this geographical area enables differences to be identified.

No one disputes that humility is a virtue, but sometimes excessive humility leads to anonymity. This is the case with the writings of Maria Beatrix of Austria-Este, Princess of Modena, who chose to spend thirty-four years of her life in cloistered convents in Austria and Italy where she devoted herself to writing. Her prolific literary output on religious subjects has not yet been systematically collected nor has its authorship been recognized in any of the libraries that hold it. This article sheds light on a 19th century Italian writer who has gone unnoticed by history.

This article introduces the figure of Gregorio Redi, nephew of the better-known Francesco. As an 18th-century writer and scholar, Gregorio was in contact with many intellectuals of the time. Thanks to these contacts, in 1734 he printed his translation of the Psalms of David at Bernardo Paperini’s press in Florence. The agreement Redi drew up with the printer, specifying the edition’s characteristics and its publication, is conserved in the state archives of Arezzo.

The “received view” on Kantian ethics holds that perfect duties enjoy absolute priority over imperfect duties. More recently, several Kantian scholars have reassessed this situation, arguing that imperfect duties may remain binding even if they imply breaching a perfect duty. In this article, I argue that both positions rely on a misunderstanding of the bindingness of Kantian duties. Genuine Kantian duties, I claim, remain binding even when they cannot be fulfilled. We must always strive for a total completion of our duties; what it means for us to strive for it, however, will vary depending on our peculiar situation. ORCID

This article attempts to show that the doctrine of the impossibility of total error (DIET) is one of the main presuppositions of Kant's moral thought and not just of his theoretical thought. I will exhibit how the antinomy of reason is one of the most important motives of Kant's philosophical inquiry and then illustrate my interpretation of radical evil by advocating an interpretation of reason in Kant as a unitary faculty. La Sociedad de Estudios Kantianos en Lengua Española (SEKLE) invita a participar en el Congreso Internacional que tendrá lugar en Santiago de Compostela del 15 al 19 de julio del 2024. El VI Congreso Internacional de la SEKLE celebra no solo el encuentro bienal de esta Sociedad de Estudios Kantianos sino también el tricentenario del nacimiento de Immanuel Kant (1724-1804). El lema Caminos del pensar, evoca metafóricamente tanto el Camino de Santiago y la bella ciudad anfitriona, como los múltiples caminos abiertos por el pensar kantiano a tres siglos de su nacimiento. Consideramos la historia evolutiva de su pensamiento, que, desde nuestro punto de vista, no recorre uno, sino varios caminos, lo que también vale para su historia efectual. Etimológicamente la palabra 'camino' o 'caminos' sugiere el problema del método o de los métodos del pensamiento de Kant y existe en nuestro pensador incluso “un camino que todavía no ha sido nunca hollado” (KrV, A 98), a saber, el de la Deducción trascendental de las categorías. Muchos son los caminos, tanto nacionales como internacionales, que pueden traer a las investigadoras y a los investigadores kantianos a Santiago de Compostela, con ocasión del tricentenario de su nacimiento. Además de los temas mencionados, son bienvenidas las contribuciones sobre cualquier otro aspecto del pensamiento de Kant. Los idiomas del congreso son: español, alemán, portugués, inglés, italiano, francés y gallego. La modalidad será híbrida.

El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar el libro colectivo, coordinado por Sergio Sevilla y Jesús Conill, Kant después del neokantismo. Se pretende exponer la forma en que, según los autores participantes en el volumen, algunos de los principales filósofos del siglo XX han dialogado con Kant para elaborar sus propios pensamientos. Para ello se dan tres pasos fundamentales. En primer lugar, se presenta la problemática de la relación entre filosofía e historia de la filosofía, ubicando el contexto de surgimiento del neokantismo dentro de esta problemática. En segundo lugar, se reconstruye brevemente la idea central de cada uno de los estudios contenidos en la obra analizada. En tercer lugar, se actualiza esta sistematización de los “epígonos de Kant” recurriendo al caso de Rainer Forst, que, con su idea de un “derecho básico a la justificación”, constituye uno de los principales revitalizadores actuales de Kant después del neokantismo. Am 17. Dezember 2022 ist Dieter Henrich kurz vor seinem 96. Geburtstag in München gestorben. Am 5. Januar 1927 wurde er in Marburg an der Lahn geboren. Dort begann er 1946 sein Studium, wechselte aber bald zu Hans-Georg Gadamer nach Frankfurt am Main und folgte Gadamer 1950 weiter nach Heidelberg. Noch im selben Jahr, im Dezember 1950, wurde er in Heidelberg mit einer Arbeit über die Einheit der Wissenschaftslehre Max Webers promoviert (erschienen in Tübingen 1952), und 1956 habilitierte er sich dort mit einer Arbeit über Selbstbewusstsein und Sittlichkeit (unveröffentlicht). Bis 1960 lehrte er als Privatdozent in Heidelberg, dann als ordentlicher Professor zuerst an der Freien Universität Berlin (1960–65), anschließend erneut in Heidelberg (1965–81) und zuletzt in München (1981–94).
